Winterizing diesel

Quote from above article:
Car makers selling Common Rail or Unit Injector diesel engines prohibit the dilution of diesel fuel with either gasoline or kerosene as it may destroy the injection device.

Read your manual first before any blending! What grandpa did with his old tractor may hurt a modern engine.

2018 Kioti owners' manual is very clear: Do not use fuel additives.

I use Power Service in the white bottle at the rate of 1 oz/5 gallons in #1 diesel. I burn #1 diesel in my furnace and use the same fuel in the tractor. The fuel gets treated going into the tractor, NOT in the furnace oil tank.

Fuel in home heating systems is subject to gel same as in a vehicle. I'd say if your home heating fuel works without additive your tractor probably would too. But I wouldn't chance it.

45 years ago I rented a house heated with fuel oil. It gelled. Not pretty.......

Those guys are morons. First off, daedong is in south korea, and they don't get real winters there. Jinju, seoul, and dague get winter, but they are "south of the mason dixon line" winters. Second, you can't get diesel fuel in my area that doesn't have some type of additive in it from the supplier. They have to keep their diesel from gelling up in the winter too, otherwise you can't sell it because you can't pump it. Thirdly, ULSD is a U.S. thing and other countries don't sell this junk. Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD): The Good, The Bad, The Rusty

I use powerservice in all my tanks, both inside tanks and outside tanks. I used it in my last kioti for 10 years, and I will use it in this one for as long as I have it. I am not saying that PS is the bomb, or a magical solution, there are other products to buy that are just as effective if not more effective, but I have a ton of it that I bought on clearance.

Don't have the "white bottles" in front of me, but I just bought a new bottle a couple weeks ago. Did they change things?

Their "small" bottle size seems different than the bottle it's replacing?

I don't have exact numbers in front of me, but it seems their recommended dosage, as printed on the bottle, requires twice the amount (or treats 1/2 the amount of fuel) as the old bottle?

(Not sure, but maybe old was 8oz for 50 gal, and new is 8 oz for 25 gal?)

Has anyone noticed?

I buy the 80 oz jugs which treat 250 gallons.

I keep some in stock all the time so can shop sales. I usually pay $11 for 80 oz.

Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost - Power Service

mplete directions are printed on each container label.
This product is to be added to the fuel. DO NOT ADD TO THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID TANK.

If your vehicle will not start or gain power in cold temperatures, use Power Service Diesel 911 (in the red bottle) as directed on the container. After the engine is running, add Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost.

16-OUNCE (PART NO. 1016)
At temperatures above 0°F., add entire contents (16 ounces) to 40 gallons of diesel fuel. When temperatures drop below 0°F. or when using biodiesel blends, add entire contents (16 ounces) to 20 gallons of diesel fuel.

32-OUNCE (PART NO. 1025)
At temperatures above 0°F., add entire contents (32 ounces) to 100 gallons of diesel fuel. When temperatures drop below 0°F. or when using biodiesel blends, add entire contents (32 ounces) to 50 gallons of diesel fuel.

80-OUNCE (PART NO. 1080)
At temperatures above 0°F., add entire contents (80 ounces) to 250 gallons of diesel fuel. When temperatures drop below 0°F. or when using biodiesel blends, add entire contents (80 ounces) to 125 gallons of diesel fuel.

as you can see, based on their list there is a difference: 2.5 gallons per ounce on the 16 ounce containers, 3.125 at 32 ounces, and 3.125 at 80 ounces. Why the difference at 16? I don't know, probably to idiot proof harry the home owners 5 gallon jugs. It basically doubles at 0 degrees, 1.25 , 1.56, and 1.56

Full winter blend is late getting here in southern Maine because of supply problem. Fuel we have now is good for -11 to -20. Full winter blend (-40) might be here next week and until then my supplier is doing a blend of 2 to 1 diesel and kerosene for both on road and off road. With winter blend I generally don't put any additive in my Powerstroke and I won't in my tractor.

What is diesel selling for there? With that type of blend I bet it has got to be about $3.25 or more a gallon. I just got my tanks filled at 2.57/gallon.

I'm selling it for 2.99 / 2.69 at the moment. We'll see what the price is when they ship the actual blend from Canada. generally jumps 10-20 cents then.

Power Services has a line of quality Diesel supplements, one specifically for anti-gelling. I keep them in my tanks and equipment and fuel problems are just not an issue. "Snake Oils" work for me.

Shoot - being a girl from the south, I never even realized there was such as thing as winter fuel. Found out real quick like when I went to upstate NY to pet sit for a friend in feburary a few years back. Just my luck they had the worst blizzard they had experienced in the last 30 years. I went out to move my F250 Super Duty for the snowplow guy and found out what "gelling" is. I had filled my tank at a station below the Mason Dixon and had no clue you were supposed to use a treatment. My truck was very unhappy with me. I had to promise I would never do that to it again:)

I was advised by a local mechanic that seems to know his stuff to use this stuff. Use double the recommended dosage, it won't hurt anything. This comes from Maine with winters at -25.

I致e had my 3540 for 4 years now and it works all winter long with no issues and no supplements. I have some 911 just in case. Upstate NY where it gets below zero every winter.

And your fuel comes treated or blended. :)

Just use #1 winter diesel instead of using sorcery , potions and elixirs in an attempt to reduce fuel filter waxing with the #2 summer diesel .

   / Winterizing diesel #40
I use #1 diesel all year round and still add about 1-2oz of PS winter anti-gel to the fuel., but only in winter. When it becomes a time (when I retire) that I use the tractor in summertime too, then I will add 1-2oz of automatic transmission oil to the fuel.
Keep in mind that I do NOT have a tier 4 motor. NO DEF, NO catalytic converter, NONE of the emissions crap to deal with.
