Grapple WRLong Root Grapple

Don't think you will find anythinb negative about WRLong stuff. I also purchase two of the 3rd functions kits and having them installed now. Just picked up my root grapple tonight and looking forward to getting some good use out of it. I think it is one of those things that you get by without, but once you get used to using it, would not give it up. Best of luck with yours. Keep it lubed.

I have their grapple and valve and they seem to be well made. My only criticism is that they are 1 for 3 in the shipping department. The grapple arrived without a skid attached although they leave the factory on one. The hoses had to be replaced because of forklift damage that probably happened when the shipper had to move the grapple without a skid. Then the heavy valve/mounting bracket came in a large box with no packing so the plastic part of the valve was sticking out of the box. No problem on a quick connector exchange (my fault). They handled it without paperwork and trusted me to return the old one.

One more comment on the WRLong: they are undoubtably fine grapples but are among the more expensive (along with Anbo, ATI etc). It is not clear to me that there are any significant advantages to the expensive grapples for people using them on CUTs to clean up landscaping debris. For those reading this thread and thinking, "dang, wish I could afford one"...the answer is that you can if you look at some of the perfectly serviceable grapples from companies like Millonzi, Pirrahna and a few others that sell on Ebay. The dealer markups on these grapples is quite large so if you are willing to deal with picking up a grapple at a freight terminal and installing your own hydraulic diverter or rear remote you can get a perfectly serviceable grapple for about half of what the premium brands will cost through a dealer.

Very true IslandTractor. I just picked mine up at the terminal, saved on shipping, eveyting was in great shape, not a scratch on it. The mounting and installation of the 3rd remote is a little more problematic for me not being a welder.

It's a plate that you weld onto the loader cross member where the quick connects mount.

Well quality is important for me on this implement since it will probably get the most use and the #1 reason for me purchasing the tractor. Here is an example what I will be dealing with.

I deal with exactly the same type of clearing and have been very happy with a Millonzi grapple that cost me less than 600 bucks. It is no longer that cheap but can still be had for something close to 700 and far less than the "premium" brand grapples. Anbo's are made of T1 steel and are works of welding art which is cool but way overkill for what most of us do. I haven't met any wood that could out last even mild steel yet. The light duty Millonzi is 3/8 inch mild steel. The WRLong grapple is I think mild steel too but has a different and very nice clamshell design. I did not personally think the clamshell design was worth an extra $1400 so I went with the more traditional root grapple design used by Millonzi.

If you have the bucks and want to spend them go ahead but don't think that paying more for a grapple is necessary to get a decent tool to clear brush and trees.

Are you going to try to get those stumps out with a root grapple? I would get a dozer or backhoe to get those puppys out.

Oh no... the grapple is just for the branches, logs and tree tops. Maybe even some of the stumps that have ALREADY been pulled up by the heavy equipment that was there doing the house.

The stumps cover quite a bit, I have 1.5 acres of old food plot, 1.5 or so acres for the homesite and another 1-1.5 acres behind the home for a "park" which I did have de-stumped this week before the heavy equipment left. That is the only area out of the 27.5 that is de-stumped.

Some stumps will be sawed to the ground then I'll round up the heck out of it.
Some will be pulled up somehow, probably a mix of digging, sawing and the FEL. Finally depending on how many I can't get out will depend on if I buy a BH, I got A LOT..too much to rent or hire someone to do it.

Whatever is left I'll drill and fill with stump remover, diesel, whatever once the round up does it's job. A few months later ome hot coals should break them up enough to be able to smash them below the surface after a day or so.
