X304, X324, Or Something Else?

For me, the GT2550 is the best value. Of course I'm a little partial because that's what I own. Adding to what CCinCT posted, the GT2542 has a two blade deck - the rest of the line has three blade decks. The 2550 & 2554 have deeper decks than the 2542 & 2544, which helps with mulching and pretty much eliminates clippings shooting out the left side of the deck.

One thing to keep in mind with the 3000 series is the mowing decks are an extra cost option, so the price will go up depending on what deck size you choose.
I wish the 2500 series was like that.
I would like to buy a GT 2554 with out any mower deck.

I'll admit if I found $10k lying on the ground, I'd get a JD X720, kind of my dream yard tractor. But there is nothing else in the JD LT/GT lineup that even slightly intrigues me, the rest of their models IMHO are really just lightweight lawn tractors. This is where for only a little more than a quarter of the price of an X700 the Cub Cadet 2500 series GT's really shine in as a true ladder frame, horizontal engine, heavyweight shaft drive tractor. Why every other manufacturer except Cub has ran away from this principle is beyond me, but I'm sure cost and economics have a lot to do with it. As most of us will never find that $10k lying on the ground, many who truly look and compare end up with a Cub 2500.

What you could do is buy a new one, and remove and sell the brand new mower deck on e-bay or the such. Just as you only want the new tractor, I'm sure there are plenty of 2500 owners out there who would love to have just a brand new spare mower deck for a reasonable price. Just a thought :)

Or even better find a 1 to 3 year old used 2500 with or without a mower deck.
I could then put my deck on the used 2500 .
Then if the used 2500 did happen to have a deck I could sell that deck.

Any of you 2500 owners on here want to sell me yours for about 2000? Yeah rite?:D

They are all the same except for deck size, and the 2542 has smaller from wheels. They all use the same engine, but with progressing HP rating as you move up in deck size.

The 3000 is heavier, has optional diff locks, has optional 60" deck, has hydraulic deck lift and optional additional valve(s), power steering, and I'm sure there's more as well but the coffee hasn't filtered through me yet.
Do they all use the same Tiller dirt blade and snow blower?

All 2500's can use the same tiller, blade and blower. All 3000's can use the same tiller, blade and blower. The 2500's don't share attachments with the 3000's.

1*I have found a BX1500 with 48"MMM and FEL for $8500, 2*As far as the Cubs go - what's the real winner in the 2500 line?
3*Lastly, does anybody have any experience with how much it costs to have a used lawn tractor shipped?
I was thinking about buying a long distnace 455 and having it shipped, but 4*have no idea what the cost would be.
1*I got a price on a new BX1500 with a front blade and a rear tiller for $8500.
8500 sounds to high for used.
2*My favorite is the 2554 but that's really a matter of personal choice and what mower deck width you prefer.
3*Usually or probably to much to be competive with buying locally.
4*I found out the used JD cost more than my new CC 2554.
How do you add freight charges to that and beat the CC cost?

I know this is an apples to oranges comparison, but I think it's between the Deere X324 or the CC 2554. I
First thing to do is decide if what you want/need is a lawn tractor or a Garden tractor.
Once you do that your decision will be made.
x324 LT
2554 Gt.

I thought this was how it worked.
Thanks for the confirmation.

So I called the Cub Cadet dealer today that's closet to where I live and needless to say I wasn't that impressed. They seemed nice enough answering the phone, but then they asked me if I could hold for one moment - 15 minutes later I was still on hold. So, I hung up and called back, at which point they put me back on hold for another 5 minutes. Finally, someone spoke with me, but didn't seem to know much of anything about Cub Cadets. I told him I was interested in the 2500 series and he replied that they didn't have any. After telling him that I would just buy one from somewhere else, he then decided that maybe he could look it up if I gave him the model numbers. He then gave me these quotes:

GT 2554 - $4399
GT 2550 - $4099
GT 2544 - $3699

After swallowing hard, I asked him if he was aware that the prices on the CC web site were several hundered dollars cheaper per model? After talking back and forth he agreed to try and do some research and possibly work his prices down towards the web site prices. Since there are several dealers in the area, I think I will just call a different one tomorrow. Am I wrong to be somewhat disgusted by this experience?
