"a blockage in the block"

Exactly where I was going next, too.........cause I assumed it didn't have a water pump, or he would have mentioned something about checking it before........

they (Jegs) also have those little temp sticks, pieces of wax you can stick on something, when it hits the appropriate temp, the wax melts. If you stuck several of those on various places around the engine, you could see where or if there's a hot or cold spot

Fig,

It should work fine, SAAB is a GM company and they tried the Dexicool for a couple of years. The shout gets all of it out of the system as it doesn't play well with regular coolant. You drain the system and clean water flush it to get as much out as you can and then add a 1/4 cup for every 2 gal of system capacity and run it for 15-20 min. Drain it again and clear water flush it again, drain again and fill with 50-50 mix of regular coolant. They were serious about not mixing the two types of coolant. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

most auto or rad shops also have a tool to check your rad cap for the proper psi release and most cooling systems are a pressure system and do not function well without it .i looked at my cap and there is no spec on it ,ill bet someone on this sight knows what the operating radiator psi should be.dexacool and extended life i would stay away from , they havent turned out to be the great replacment products they were intended to be, just regular anti-freez by far is still the best thing going.

Well, I got the gauge installed last night. The temp light comes on at 215 degrees. I flushed out the block today and the water was again totally clear. The water flowed through the block easily. No, the 1110's don't have a water pump.

Did you replace the sending unit when you installed the gauge? If not, I would try that. Otherwise, I am out of ideas. If all you say is true, it should be working.

If I 'am not mistaken the temp light shoud not come on until 234 degrees. 215 is not HOT for that tractor.

I'll get a new sender on order.

SailorBob,

That sure is cool. My 1700 will run 190 degrees while finish mowing on level ground and no load. When the tractor is at an angle (right, left) or under load for several seconds; it will usually rise anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees, but usually returns to 190 - 200 when back on level ground.

My 1500D runs around 200-205 under load, mowing and cools off to about 190 or so downhill or just driving it....it goes as high as 210 in the heat of the day....

I put a gallon of some cooling stuff called ice water or something like and about a pint of antifreeze with the balance being distilled water. I can't remember the name of the ice water stuff but, I got it at Advance Auto Parts. I looked for Water Wetter but, could not find it. Maybe that ice water stuff works. Come winter I will have to a a little bit more antifreeze though. We don't have a lot of real cold weather here.
