Evident one size does not fit all so unless compelled... to each their own.
I do think we can agree there is a difference if you are paying 10 cents a kWh or 41 cents.
Also think if you live somewhere where wood heat is illegal and new natural gas/propane installs prohibited the numbers change and more so if the cost to bring in power is tens of thousands...
EV still enjoy many perks... some early Tesla receive free lifetime charging... quite a perk... not to mention the possibility of preferred parking, free charging, carpool lane, reduce maintenance, freedom from smog checks, etc.
My 6kW array was a freebie and not a burden and the intangible is satisfaction in ownership.
So far the only work required after start up is twice a year I adjust the tilt of the panels with no tools required and maybe once over the summer rinse the panels when it has not rained in months.. neither necessary but both optimize efficiency.
My take away is there are MANY things we do on TBN that don't pencil out if we were to pay someone to do for us... such as buying a tractor but we do it because of the intangible of satisfaction and even the possible appreciation as icing on the cake...
