Of course I Bonds are limited. But y’all said solar is only $12k out of my pocket anyway, right? Also, that’s $10k per year…. So if my payoff is 7 years on Solar, with no opportunity cost, amortize that out.

The I Bond pays for my electricity without touching principle.

All I’m saying is, dollar savings is very scant for many people… very. This reminds me of my old neighbor who sold an old pickup, to buy a NEW one, because he would save $$ on gas. Yep… that didn’t happen.

The fact that government subsidies are required to make it financially viable, is all I need to know. Just like geothermal… without the transfer of tax payer dollars to me, to install it… it wasn’t financially sound to do so. Now, if I take a transfer of wealth from the taxpayer to fund my green tech… sure, it sounds a little better.

I also wonder how effective solar would be in Indiana, when we have weeks of overcast skies, when we need electricity most.
I don't see how it would be effective. Solar is great for states with high electricity rates and lots of sunshine. if you don't have both of those, its prolly not going to be a good buy for the majority of people.

Fairly easily answered. Look here. An example of a random house in Indiana with a 8kw solar array on the roof with a 34% pitch.

If you to got Site Details then scroll to bottom right you will see the averages per day per month.

If we take Dec for instance you will generate 16 kwh per day with ideal conditions. In Jul it is 36.

To answer the question if you are charging a 75kwh battery every day.....8kw array probably wont cut it. Also keep in mind you will probably pay $20-50k for that 8kw array to be installed on a residential home.

Summary: Huge waste of money.

that's cool, didn't know about that website. in December it says my location should produce 2,829 kwh for the same sized array. July, 5,792.

Yep, that would drop my electric bill by $72/mo during my peak use months. If I saved $1000/yr, I’d never see a payoff.

Our electric bill was 80 dollars last month. All electric. The killer is when we use the hydronic/electric boiler floor heating on the lazy days I don't want to start a wood stove fire place. And just use the electric/boiler, floor heat system cause I'm too tired to set up the wood stove. Then its is 100 dollars more a month.

You buy a car, that is now an EV orphan. Good luck with that. As I've said before, if there are no standards set for battery packs, you are screwed.
I will buy one when there is a form factor and established Voltage Spec. Other wise all any one is buying are proprietary systems that may or not be supported in the future. I don't buy a flash light if the only place to get the battery is the company that sold it. Why would any one buy a car that same way?

U r supposed to charge at night.
On my companies dime, oh nice, I get OVERTIME waiting for a charge somewhere out in the middle of the state. Plus they would have to put me up in a hotel/motel for the night too. Not sure what would be worse, the overnight hotel bill or the charge costs.

I may have to change my client base to where Amtrack runs because I could get there FASTER.
