If it looks like a lightning bolt, that is your charging indicator. Do you have a charging problem?

First you want to make sure all three lights on the dash are working. To check them, do not push the clutch down (so the engine doesn't turn over) and turn the key all the way to 'start'; all three should light up. When you let the key back to 'on' only the oil pressure and charge light should be on.
You said the charging light is on when running, so that indicates a charging problem, probably the voltage regulator. I have them in stock, contact me for price and shipping.

OK...... i must have a charging problem if the light is on all the time. With the new battery, i haven't run the tractor long enough to find out the hard way. I will be in touch as soon as i get done shortening my rear blade.

I believe you will find it pretty tough owning/operating a used tractor without owning/operating a volt/ohm meter. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah.... i actually have a digital multi-meter, but i'm sad to say i haven't even had it out of the box for ten years. I was actually hoping the light would just signify that the ignition was on, and not a charging problem. So much for wishful thinking ! No complaints though... i think i did OK on the tractor. Bought it from an area Deere dealer... was a trade in on a new tractor. I made a low ball offer and i didn't want them to shop it, figuring they would have to get more for it. Puttin a battery in it and a few other odds and ends will be OK with me. It will just make our relationship more intimate (between me and my Yanmar) ! If i could figure out how to downsize a picture file i'd post a pic of it !

Nice looking rig. There are those on this forum that would kill for those wheel weights. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Break out that meter and check your charging voltage at the battery at about 1500rpm, looking for about 13.5-14.5 vdc.

I hadn't given the wheel weights much thought when i was looking the tractor over..... but now i'm glad they were with it. They will come in handy. I'll get my meter out in the morning ! Thanks again !!

Awesome tractor! Look how proud it sits in the snow(!). Keep the battery charged, if you need to start it. Meanwhile, as Norm as suggested, get the volt/multi-meter out and do some testing. ...Also, if you can, post some pics of the light that keeps coming on, i had such a one and someone pointed out (here) that it was for a battery lead which wasn't connectd, so, you might have a simple problem... welcome to tbn, cya -art

p.s. the wheel weights, they are special, keep 'em keep them well taken care off, i've not seen anything like those.

If your charging light is on , 99% of the time its your voltage regulator, We went thru about 10 of them last year on our yanmars
when the light was on we automaticaly replaced the regulator and the light would go out everytime ! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
