Fixed the ongoing trailer plug issue.
Trailer plug on one of my trailers had a terminal that was pinched shut and would fold over terminal on the truck. I would straighten it out with the Leatherman but knew the day would come... that day was yesterday! Found the truck terminal in one of my trailer plugs

Replaced offending plug and socket on truck.

I bought a few padlocks from nearby garage sale a few years ago that were pretty cheap (maybe 50 cents each or so). I liked this brass one for locking my boat trailer onto the ball hitch on my pickup, and also for locking up the cap when I had valuables in it.

A few weeks ago, I got back from a fishing trip and I couldn’t locate the key. I used an angle grinder and cutoff wheel to remove the lock when I got home that day.

A day or two later, I found the key. The cut off lock was still in my shop garbage can. I fished it out and removed the cut-off part. It wasn’t real easy to clamp and it took a few tries to get it straight, but I managed to weld it back together with less than one stick of 6013 1/16” rod.

I ground it flush, reworked the notch a bit with a file, gave it a shot of WD-40, and now it works as well as it ever did. Took me about 1/2 hour for the repair, but it was a fun job. It’s nice to have a good lock again. I was worried the whole time I was out fishing yesterday morning, someone was going to run off with my trailer and leave me stranded out on the river.

I have an ongoing “fixed thing”. Knotter #6 on my Krone baler.
It rips the twine behind the knotter about every other bale.

Billhook-check
Twine knife-check
Twine rollers-check
Twine feed-check

In the meantime, I’ll keep on fixing it I guess.
Knotters amaze me. Once they work don't touch them... I found a slow motion on YT.

Seems there is always something needing to be fixed. How many others get up in the morning and think to themselves "I wonder what will break today"?
Yep, alternator not charging on a tractor. Yep, battery toast on another. I do not even want to go to the barn today.
Who else has these days and what is your latest "perfect, just what I needed today" moments?
YES! I thought I was the only one that has these days. All I can tell you is that just when things can't get any worst, they do. Only kidding. Just try to remember a day when everything went right, I know they seem far and few, but they were there, and they will be there again. Of course, swearing at the thing seems to help. Then when all else fails, try praying. Not saying either one of these will help but they are sure worth a try.

I have a hard time sleepin at night cause I am tryin to decide what to repair tomorrow.
We been at this place 47 years now and started out goin up hill at a good pace. At some point in time we started goin the other direction. The things that need fixin are pilin way above our heads. Now we are in the most need of repair, we are both falling apart. We are at the point that just keepin us going is more than we can handle.

Neighbor borrowed bush-hog. Now it needs new transmission ($725). Cost of shaft and seals, $800🤑. Picked up used 5'er to get by ($500 with free rear 8' blade the seller didn't want anymore). When I got back home, cats decided they didn't like my monitor - No that isn't a black mountain scene on the monitor!

I just had my "free" barn cat FIXED last week. He was hanging around for the last year, so I started to feed him. Slowly came around to letting me pet him, then pick him up. Bought a cat carrier, got him to the vet and checked, shots, neuter. $411, but n/c for the claw clipping which is a real plus.

Now - he's inside/outside, on my lap all the time, purring and doing the "kneading dough" thing with his paws. Not taking to any kind of litter box, but no accidents inside...

I've never been a cat person, never owned one. I've been adopted, I think.

You fixed the cat .... He might disagree 😄:p good for you.
I get my barn cats from the humane society. Pre fixed, shots, and chipped for free.
I'm tempted when I see free kittens on CL. But somebody has to take the truly feral cats.
Happy mouse free living.

We have a nice barn cat that showed up here last year. Took awhile for her to let us get near her, now shes a complete pest. Whenever i open any shop or barn door, she come barreling over to run inside.

Nearly every day i find her locked i to a building obernight. Shes super stealth. But at least being locked indoors she is safe from night predators. Leaves dead mice everwheres which is a plus.

She absolutely loves my dog.

Excavator is still broken (waiting on replacement part).
Yesterday discovered the “small leak” in the Tractor’s hydraulic system is a lot bigger than I though. Filling the reservoir to try to find the source of the leak today.

Dogs have owners, cats have staff. You have been assimilated. (Good on you!)

"Inside" cats live a lot longer than "outside" cats. Fewer predators, fewer accidents, fewer parasites, better diet, and someone is watching so if they need a trip to the vet, it happens before it is too late.

Now, the never ending, ever growing to do list . . . groan.

The problem with having "stuff" is you have to maintain it and fix it. Someone here has a sig line that says "Make the time to maintain your equipment or it will make the time for you." How true . . . and sometimes even if you DO maintain your equipment, it decides to get "needy" and demands some extra "quality time" with you and with your toolbox.

Then you get force majeur. Right now, I have to postpone ALL activities and go put up the rest of the hurricane shutters for Milton which is expected to arrive here Wednesday, departing (and good riddance) mid-day Friday. Ugh.

Then I can go back to the long laundry list of "stuff" I have to fix/upgrade/modify/maintain and so on. While I could hire some people to do some of this, in my experience, they screw it up and then I have to go back and fix it myself anyway. Take a number for faster service - and don't be in a hurry.

Best Regards,
Mike/Florida

Outside GFI outlet failed, replacement on the way.
Seems I fix 4-5 items a week, mostly broken by family, bit sometimes due to age.

Fixed a soap dispenser that wife likes using silicon sealant.

Failed to fix one of the halloween devices. Motor shaft is too tight, loosen it and gears grind. All plastic and rubber band driven from tiny electric motor.

I just came home from Texas Roadhouse….to find my post mounted LED light flickering on and off. The wonderful 50,000 hour light lasted a whole year…. Amazing. The old incandescent it replaced lasted 10 years.

That's a typical failure mode for LED lights. Usually a capacitor goes bad in the power supply circuit. It starts initially, but the oscillator circuit won't continue to run to power the light, so it goes off and tries all over again. A $.05 part kills the light. Same thing happens when you see LED street lights flash on and off.
