I think this has only been true a couple of weeks. I look at a thread with, say, 15 responses, some with photos. I click on the thumb and look at the photo, then click the browser back arrow to return to the thread. Trouble is, it goes back to the entry with the first photo I looked at, not the current one. Haven't tried it over multiple pages.

It all depends on what browser you are using. I use IE 7 and I have it set so that if I click on a thumb it opens the full size picture in a seperate tab. When finshed lookin I simply close that tab and am right back to the post with the thumb in it. That way it does not have to reload the original page and is quite a bit faster. Perhaps you should be closing the tab and not using the back arrow,???? If you are using IE I highly reccommend that you use IE7pro helper as it has many features to make browsing faster and easier. or just use a inherently better browser in the first place and DL firefox 3.

any addons to IE are just borrowed ideas from firefox development to make IE less archaic

I use Slimbrowser which overlays IE7, I think. I tried Firefox a few years ago, haven't recently. The reason I'm curious is this problem with the photos only just started happening, always worked fine until a few weeks ago. Re Jim Brown - that's how mine used to work: photo opens in separate tab, when I close that tab I return to where I clicked on the photo. Now, however, I am returned to the first photo I opened in the thread. I'll fool with settings, I guess.
Thanks for replies,
Jim

I've noticed this too using Firefox 2. As well it is recent. I haven't changed my browser, and I only see this behaviour on The Forum software used on TBN and other sites.

need to make that clear that its ONLY on TBN's version of there tweeked vBulletin powered forums work as you would expect.

another "tweek" done by the admins on this site that has effectively broke something that was working just fine.

Why don't you stop complaining about this? The management is aware of it and other very minor problems associated with canned and/or customized software. I think if you poll the members of TBN, 99.99% will say the board is fun and works fine for the price of membership!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Jim,

I just tried to duplicate the behavior you described but was unable to. The thread I used for testing can be found here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/photos/127530-heres-your-sign.html

For me, clicking back after viewing an attachment takes me back to the place on the page that the attachment link was. Doesn't matter how many attachments there are or which of them I view.

Which browser are you using? I tested this on Firefox 3 and IE 6 (the browser we have most compatibility issues with) and both worked properly.

so i go to another random thread with attached image. it happens to be new (unread) to me, click link, top of page first post. scroll down the page to first ATTACHED image. click the immage, (loads in current tab), click back, boom top of page.

tryed second random thread with ATTACHED image.

3/4 the way down the page, i click the thumbnail of the huge windmill. click the back button... returned to top of page.

i do NOT consider this to be a FF issue (the broswer im useing) as all other vbulletin forums i visit do not experience this problem.

Those links you provided are links to specific posts, not the link to the specific thread. If you visit another link then attempt to go back, it will take you to that specific post, not the thread.

Try this link, then scroll down to the post with the picture in it. Click on the picture, it opens. Click the back button and it goes right back to where you were.

Oh, I see. whenever there is a #post(number) attached to the end of the URL (as you get when you're taken to the newest unread post in a thread), the browser will take you to that post when you click back.

Technically, it's working the way it's been working since we installed vb. Other forums have different configuration setups that make this function work differently.

Mine does the same thing. It started after the maintenance was done on this forum. I don't have any issues with the other forums that I frequent. It only happens on a thread with new posts. When you click on a thread it opens to the first new unread post since my last visit. As I'm reading the new posts in that thread I come across one that has a picture. When I click to view the picture, it opens as normal, but when I click the back button it returns me to the first new post as when I originally opened the thread. So now I have to scroll back down and find the post I was on before viewing the picture.

A very easy work around is to right click on the picture and choose Open In New Tab. It is only one extra mouse click.

you must work in the IT industry.

Only an IT person suggests a workaround for a new problem created after a so called "update" was performed. "sorry about breaking what used to work just fine, hear just go through 3 or 4 extra steps instead, its really easy to do, that way we dont have to fix what we broke in the first place"

Where David works is irrelevant, however a simple viewing of his profile would have answered your question. David is simply trying to solve a problem for someone who joined TBN on Jul 26, 2006 and in your 15th post, on Aug 1, 2006, began complaining and has complained ever since because TBN doesn't work they way you think it should.

Yep. 21 years in IT. One of our goals is to get people back up and running as soon as possible while we solve problems regardless of who caused them. I hate to see people pound their head against the wall over and over and over and over and over and over..... when there is a pretty painless work around to use while the problem is being looked into. :p

Where did I say that's all you contribute 'hear'?

I must have been absent when you were elected to speak for all the other 51,014 TBN users. 'make the usr experience better'? Hardly. No, your complaints indicate there's only one way TBN ought to operate, your way. Whenever someone offers an alternative, you're not interested. TBN has to operate your way and you will complain about it until it does.
