Fuel gelling?

I sure hope so. I am not a diesel expert, and here in ny we are expecting a cold snap to come up this week in the minus readings soon. Good thing its not gonna snow this week, but I plan keep a eye on my tractor fuel for gelling. I have treated the diesel with power service as well and it better do its job! :D I expect to see more posts about gelling this week due to a cold snap coming in the northeast.
Is this winter or summer blend fuel?
What I have is summer blend in my tractors that I treated with .58 ounces per gallon of PS.
How much PS did you put in your diesel?

I just put in 5 gallons last week I just bought from kwik fill last week and it better had to be winter blend. But who is gonna trust the minmum wage gas clerk?

Lools like you have treated winter blend while I have treated summer blend.

When I pulled it today, my bowl was half full of water and black crud. The filter was again jammed with a mix of what I assume was frozen water and diesel

You should buy a Mr.Funnel and use it with each fill-up.

My first fill-up of my new tractor came with water in the fuel. I left my new tractor in the forest overnight:( I had to drain the tank, clean and then swap out the filter (that was ruined)and refuel to get it going.

Now I only buy fuel from stations that sell a lot of fuel, don't let the tank get to less then 1/4 quarter full, fuel up in early morning or at night (to reduce condensation issues), use the Mr.Funnel and always add Power Service; white bottle in winter and silver in summer.

The Citgo station in the Michigan UP, where I often buy fuel, sells off-road #2 for $.50 per gallon less then on-road fuel. While at the Citgo I have pumped it into my fuel container when it's been -15C and it was like pouring a slushy. When I put it into my tractor and added PowerService I have never had a problem. Regardless, I now make sure I buy #1 when it's cold.

I live where it's cold from November through to April. Tonight is suppose to be -35C

1*I was using a MR Funnel until I set this rig up.
2*The bulk plant where I get my off road sells a lot of fuel.
The off road is the on road with red dye in it.
They sell # 1 in the winter & # 2 in the summer , but never # 1 and # 2 at the same time or in the same season .
3*that can't happen here cause on and off road both is the same stuff.
4*All I can get this winter around here is # 1 either with or without the red dye in it.

All 3 of my tractors are full of summer blend treated with .58 ounces per gallon of PS in the white bottle.
Do you think this will protect them against Fuel gelling?

In my opinion -- no.

Using PS has resulted in my truck being "parked" at various locations along the side of the road. Switched to "Howes Diesel Treat" and have resumed parking when and where I choose to park. If you get the hint...

I also have read this morning that diesel fuel can degrade as much up to 28 percent in less then 30 days!! yeesh. If you still have your fuel since last summer, IS this a good thing ?

On side note - i checked my fuel this morning and no wax crystals or issues. Looks clear green, started the BX and used it for an hour this morning , no issues so far. Lets see what happens tomorrow. IF i get into trouble - I'll need to drive 40 mins to get to my dealer to get filters. I dont have any on hand right now.:eek:

Based on my direct experience with my Kubota, diesel fuel and Power Service in the white bottle, in very cold weather, I would say yes it will;)

Funny I do nothing in NE and never had an issue..Best is -17F too.

A 32 oz bottle treats 100 gallons of diesel
I only tread 55 gallons with a 32 oz bottle.
Looks like that is plenty strong enough.
