I have looking at the American Solutions Grapple for the BX series for a long while but repeated attempts to get in touch with the company have gone un-answered. So I have been thinking from time to time of building one myself, but being busy I haven't really made any progress other than collecting pictures of others home built units.

Well today with searching for more pictures and ideas I came across this:

Looks like a pretty good solution. I will have to do some research on the electric driven hydraulic cylinder but figured I would ask some questions. Has anyone here purchased one? If so hows the construction, weight and that cylinder?

Comments or Thoughts

Thanks

I know that same product from Extreme Metals Products has been discussed on here before and I believe someone has actually bought one and posted about it.
The consensus is that most don't think an electric actuator will have anywhere near the clamping force of a hydraulic cylinder.

It is a neat design as far as not having to plumb extra hydraulic lines which I am all for.

I also have been unsuccessful in contacting American Solutions. I started a thread a week or so ago re. which would be better on a BX FEL: an AmeriSolutions grapple or a debris fork. There was only one reply from a member who put a different hydraulic grapple on his B2620 FEL. The name of the thing is "The Thumb", but it's actually a grapple. Here are links to two threads where he has description and pics of 1.) this hydraulic grapple, and 2.) the hydraulic valves, etc., on a B series:

Thanks for the info. Its like the American Solutions kit, but weights about 60lbs more ouch. ATI sells something along those lines as well

ATI Corporation - Tach-All(tm) Quick Attach
(bottom of the page)

BroTek says they are working on something light weight and easy to remove. Might be worth waiting.

Cool, will be nice to see what Richard is up to. Thanks for the heads up. I was about to go for a Payne's brush fork, but now maybe I will wait and see what Richard comes up with. Did he give you any time line or rough price?

Post Script, woa, that ATI looks almost the same too.
