Kubota B7800 4/wd
This post is from another forum; I also plan doing the same on my Kubota B7800 I am interested in the advice & suggestions

I have a L2900 w/FEL and want to add hooks to use for chaining up or lifting with the bucket. I am interested in ideas about wether to weld or bolt the hook on ...and where to put them...likely uses are to secure something in bucket...dragging something...lifting something out of my pick-up...also does having a hook attached to my backhoe bucket cause any problems?

If you use the quote function on the toolbar -it makes your post a lot easier to read. When you simply cut and paste- the message is some what degraded.

I have learned a lot on FEL Hooks by using the search function- type in bucket hooks, fel hooks and you will see about 10 pages ;)

Best of luck

I installed a 3/8 thick 2x2 angle and 4 hooks on my 3215.

Reinforced bucket lip and used three weld-on hooks. Works great.

No. That pic was probably with very little use. Just touched-up with the oem kubota paint. It does not look that good now (about 60hrs) and could use another touch-up. But Thanks !

You need a Bucket Buddy. Do a search on the forum. Weld a two inch receiver on your bucket. You can use and make all kinds of attachments then.

I added hooks to my bucket and all I did was drill a couple of 1/2 holes for each hook. I may be the odd one here thinking that most of these small tractors don't have the power to lift an item that would pull out four 1/2 in. bolts plus the hook through the bucket.

I've tried :D

This is my setup, some might call it overkill but it works for me. The slip hooks let my chains level off.

The backhoe hooks are very handy.

The only thing I might add to these suggestions, is to install atleast one hook facing to the rear. It allows you to pick from the rear of the bucket if you have a heavy load as 4shorts did in his pic. This brings the weight closer to the machine and can keep from lifting the rear wheels.

4shorts,
With all the great things you have done with your tractor, I'm supprised you never installed a rear facing hook for those heavy loads.

PS: I'm looking forward to the thread for the backhoe attachment your going to make and use that bucket with. LOL

4shorts , I got to know why you dont just take more scoops with the bucket you already have attached rather than trying to do the job in one scoop. ;)

It's true what you say BUT it also brings that big object closer to the machine and when you move take a guess where that big load is going to swing. Yep right into the front guard. I think I'll leave it attached where it is ;)

Nope. Don't want the load any closer to the machine. I've operated everything from a Cat 966 to a Cat 992 loader and none of them had hooks mounted like that. I think loads should be kept as far from the machine and operator as possible. I know what your saying and I understand the reasoning behind it and it make sense but In the case of my photo, I did it some what differently. Rather than keep on pushing our little machines to the point where we break them or hurt ourselves in the process I restored a machine that was designed for lifting and it's worked out very well.

When I was lifting that big bucket my first thought was "Will the front Axes take this load?". I don't worry about it now. :D

PS. Now that you told everyone about my backhoe project with that bucket I have to tell you that I got it attached to the back of the tractor but I realized the bucket was just a little bit heavy so now I need a bigger bucket for the front FEL to get the front back on the ground. It kind of looks like the first picture I added now :D

Good point but hey, I wanted something a little different that the rest of you guys had ;):D

Just another fine example on how to know when your *** is to light

I 've got confused and have triedto figure this out just by reading, but it is time to ask the dumb question. I 've read people saying mount hooks facing forward or backward all for good reasons. What I can 't figure out is which is which. like open part of hook pointing to front or back and which is called forward mounted or backward mounted. A labeled pic of each would clear it up for me.

Forward or backward refers to which way the chain goes when connected. Forward, the working end of the chain hangs over the front of the bucket. Backwards, the chain hangs across the back of the bucket near the front of the tractor.

Working off the front of the bucket keeps the load farther from the tractor and gives you more room for the load to swing, but has a greater fulcrum effect limiting the amout of weight you can lift before lifting the rear tires off the ground.

Working with the load hanging off the back of the bucket allows you lo lift a heavier load, but you must be careful so the load doesn't swing and hit the front of the tractor.

It's a trade off. Many people place hooks both directions so that they have both options available to them. I understand 4shorts decision. He has some georgous equipment and I have a dent in the nose of my tractor. Of cource, I only paid $4500 for my 68HP tractor too.

I've read enough of your mods to know that you've succeeded there.:D

Any new mods lately which I've missed? The last thing I remember reading was either the lighting on the blower or the work in the cab. BTW, have you put in a NAV system yet for white out conditions?

Your work is a thing of art...make sure you keep us posted whenever you add something.

No Cyril no NAV system "yet" ;) Your not helping by planting the idea either :D Thanks for your kind remarks on my work. Seems most everyone on here does good work. I'm always doing something and posting on it all. I just don't post much on here anymore. Last summer I put up a post here and one of the moderators rapped me on the knuckles about it. It was about a couple of warning decals I bought on Ebay and put on my Kubota zero turn.

The moderator PM'ed me telling me he removed them because they showed signs of violence and this was a family oriented site and didn't like the content. He went on to tell me that If the right person took it the wrong way I could be sued over it

I'm a member of at least 12 forums and I post all my work on line. Some of my restoration threads have over 60.000 hits on them and that was the very first time I ever had that happen so I keep a low profile on here now.

That being said If you want to view the decals click on the first link. I go by the name "Wildfire" on that site and I post there all the time.

I just placed a post of some tractor stuff i did today with my bota and made a comment on powder coating.

I also posted a video on YouTube of me last week in the tractor. Thanks for your kind comments my friend and I agree with your idea on the placement of the hooks as well. Good advise! Cheers, Paul

LOL, I gotta ask, do you have to turn your hat sideways, wear grills on your teeth and have your pants on the ground to drive that forklift? :D
