Just had a big hole dug in my front yard

Got the one piece tub/shower in...

Now I just wish I'd planned a little further ahead and replaced the old oil furnace earlier so I could have taken it out through the big hole. As it is, I'm going to have to cut it into many pieces to get it out.

Sounds like a good excuse... UHH reason... to get a plasma cutter. ;)

Oh- don't be so hard on yourself- might be easier in peices if it one of those really old ones. you wouldnt want to mess up the new walls ;)

How hard was it to move that shower? How heavy is it? How did you get it from the yard to the basement? The wife and I are building our house and are debating whether or not to go ahead and buy a tub/shower now and store it the unfinished attic in case we wanted to finish the attic later.

It's not real heavy. It's just awkward. Two guys lifted it over the wall and handed it down to two guys in the hole. After it was on the floor in the house, one guy can move it around. In fact I moved it from one room to the other tonight. I had to build a temporary wall to hold up the joists when we frame in the doors. Because our basement has 7' ceilings, I won't have room at the top of the door for a double header. We're going to have to double up the rim joist and put in joist hangars. I already talked to the inspector and he approves.

I'd recommend against storing a tub/surround in your attic. There's the cost of the tub that will just be sitting up there, and there's the space that it will take up. Who knows what is going to happen to style, technology, or building codes. If you decide to do something later, you can always get a two piece.

I recently installed a 2 piece and you can't even really notice the difference.

Actually, I think the 2 piece is better quality than the 1 pieces that were in the original build.

Don't be afraid of using a 2 piece later. They are great.

The one piece is not all that heavy, but it is bulky, and I would try to avoid bringing it in after your construction has gone to the finish stage because of what would get bumped and scraped in the process. If you are thinking of running your plumbing lines, I'd suggest you get whatever 1 pc or 2 pc unit you're considering so you can have your plumbing roughed out accordingly.

The self steering skid steer story scares me because they aren't easy to get in and out of in the first place. Your wife could have easily tripped and might have been run over, but thankfully, she wasn't.

She said that the skidsteer was only barely moving. She said that she could stop its forward progress with her hand.

I hope the safety police had a chat with the contractor when they returned.:D

For a cute little blonde with big blue eyes, this particular safety police deputy can be surprisingly persuasive when she's motivated. Once she got over laughing about the incident, I think she was pretty motivated.

The contractor left the skidsteer parked up against the tree for the rest of the day to prevent wandering. I guess that's a compromise between having a nice heated cab and destroying the customer's landscape.
