Hi! Congratulation ! Very good work Bruce . I have a BCS a Grillo and a Gravely L model . The best tranny is on Gravely True Shuttle live PTO very reliable. A Masterpiece of engineering. So Gravely are very valuable tractor for rebuilt with a new engine. Good Luck! Oldmech

Boy we have talked about this for 3 Years.
I have a C10 That I am going to put one as soon as I get them.
Because it has the same gear as the L model.
I will show pictures.

gravelymay,

I need to repower my Model L. However, it only has a 2-speed transmission. Will a modern engine work? Will you also be making adaptor plates? I would really appreciate any help you can give (or sell - if you are willing sell the parts you are making).

Hi Greg
Right now I have the adapter thickness nail down for the C10.
I am using the old Kohler adapter and making a spacer .
Because the 1 inch cranks are longer.
Now to the L Models.
I plan to use a old Kohler adapter plate redrill it to fit the Model L Transmission
I have not nailed down how Thick the spacer will need to be.
The gear I am having made will fit on all the 1 inch engines.
Some will be different lengths
So I will have to come up with different spacer thickness
Yes I plan to sell the
Spacer ,Gear,and the pilot bushing.
These 3 pieces will run $250.00 plus about $15.00 shipping
The gear is 150 by it self
The spacer is made from a 8" round 2" thick
So it is not cheap.
I can get the muffler cut out for $40.00 swap.

Hey Bruce - cant wait to see how this works on the C10. On another note, think we discussed this once before somewhere - is it possible to shorten the crank on a 13 HP clone without removing the crank? Think you told me this is possible. If so, how would you do it and still keep the new face exactly perpendicular to the shaft?

You would have to have the crank turning.
So you could start the engine and use a slitter blade.
On a 4 in side grinder.
I would drill and tap the hole deeper before you start.

Here is a C10 repowered with a old Honda engine
I had to notch the muffler also.
The engine and transmission is still dirty.
but the picture will give you a Idea how they fit.

Never heard of a slitter blade. Does this have fine teeth? Do you hold it by hand? I assume the 4" side grinder is an angle grinder? Just trying to visualize how to do this. What spurred this is the cranks on the Honda/Clones are typically much longer than they need to be for Gravely repower. So why not cut the crank down and eliminate some spacers? That would work for what I did.

Also - the C10 photos you just posted - is that an old project or one you're doing right now? Thanks.

This is the C10 That I just got in to change
To a old Honda that he Had bought at flea market for about $150.00
So I am not cleaning it up except where it mounts up.
Here is a picture of a speedy cut .
I am using on a trailer frame to cut gaps.

Hi One
Did you understand what I was talking about?
The side grinder Has a slitter or speedy cut blade.
The blade is about 1/32 thick grinding cut off type blade.
Will cut anything Hardened Steel ,Stainless steel.
Just don't get anything in the way you don't want cut.

I didn't get my gears yet.
He was having a problem with the dead end broach.
So he had to order a new one.
