I think I would be impressed if the Battery Tender Junior, which is comparable to the basic HF battery tender, doesn't also say 'Made in China' on it.

The battery tenders that I use are these Schumacher units: SEM-1562A:
I don't recall where they are made, but I can look when I get home.
They are automatic switching from 6/12 volt and senses battery state. They start and stop charging automatically in order to maintain a charge in your battery. I use them on my tractor, riding mower, generators, motorcycles and a vehicle that does not get started much during winter.
I basically plug them in and forget about them. They come with two battery connection pig-tails: one is a set of clamps for quick on/off connections and one is a set for screwing on the battery terminals. The set you screw on the battery terminals is so you can keep the pig-tail on the batter at all times and just "plug in" the maintainer quickly when you need it.
The main cord connects to the pig-tails (depending on which one you want to use) via a standard quick-connect.

The output from the HF battery tender is 650ma and the Battery Tender Jr. is 750ma. Your cell phone charger works in about the same range... and likely is made in China... do you worry about your cell phone charger burning your house down? :confused2:

When did this turn into a pissing match over how great china manufacturing is? Why are we sticking up for a country which has taken millions of jobs from the U.S? Crazy. Personally I dont care when a Item is made. If it works I'll use it. The only thing I wont buy from China is tractors.

I am not saying how great Chinese manufacturing is... just that some people have or spread a lot of FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) about certain things (HF items) but then don't think twice about using something that is very similar (cell phone charger) or possibly the same and same manufacturing country under different branding.

Yeah.....this may be true.....BUT....I have read enough reviews of the HF chargers THAT WENT BAD and cooked folks batteries (and other negatives). So....for me it's buy the known brand that has a better reputation....for about $12 more. China or no China.
I cant afford to spend big bux on Schmacher chargers for NINE batteries. Then I may as well replace the batteries more often. Kapish?

Of course it all varies highly with the battery, it's condition etc. I have read lots of reviews that the HF battery tenders work flawless... so which is correct? The output of both a HF charger and a Battery Tender Jr. are likely controlled by the same type of solid state circuit using the same type of components. Until someone bench tests them it is all subjective and based on hearsay.

I agree with what your saying Charlz.....but when it's my money and stuff on the line....I'm going with the tried and true version....for a few dollars more. I do wish I could see a test of 100 of each by somebody independent or a "consumer reports" version (then I "might" change my mind).
