Decided against a box scraper

What happens when the rental store quits renting the one you found, because it wore out or somebody else tore it up? Then your back in the same position you are now, looking for a implement. Nothing better than being able to go hook up to one, do the work, and head for the house faster than you could have made it to the rental place, only to find out somebody accidently rented it out dispite your reservations, or the last guy tore it up and they didn't notice it when he dumped it off (or worse yet, you didn't see it either, and they want to charge you for his damages)

Get a smokin deal on a 6 footer Haywire and if your not happy with it or your neighbors r too much hassle I will buy it off you in Feb when I drive to San Marcos. Course you will give me the half off TBN deal right:laughing:

My overgrown garden tractor won't handle a 6 footer. There is a 6 footer in the Lexington Craig's list for a decent price though. Have a look. No 4 footers though.

You seem to find uses for stuff when you have one. I bought a box blade thinking to use it for snow plowing and i ended up leveling a bunch of drives for friends and family ( i like poking around with the tractor anyhow) and making 4 wheeler trails around the woods.

I haven't used anything up to now. I have the metal ready for a 3ph carry all and an ammo box filled with 320lbs of lead that I plan to use on it. My buddy will be welding up the carryall this weekend.

Then it looks like you pretty well have the ballast thing covered.

I can't imagine not having a box blade, have three, but I have a lot of uses for them in addition to ballast.

I owned a box scraper when I had a 500 foot long gravel driveway, but with few exceptions I used it only for repairing the driveway each spring. When I first bought it I used it for a major project, but after that it sat most of the year.

When I moved to a house with an asphalt driveway I saw very little need for it in the future--even though I still had quite a bit of land. I gave the box scraper to my buddy in exchange for welding a 3 point reciever hitch/suitcase weight holder (he gave me some money to boot).

I guess I can always barrow it if needed, but I really don't see that happening.

As far as ballast, I never felt the box scraper was particularly useful as it is very large relative to a ballast box and not very handy when using the FEL in tight spots.

So, if you decide to buy one I would agree with those who said to look for a good used one.

Have borrowed one a few times, good for grading, not much good for anything else. Loader gets used more for road fixes as its on the tractor 90% of the time.
