Power Steering in 90 Minutes!

The reason the cylinder needs to move is because the control valve is attached to the cylinder. Some people on here have them seperate, on those the cylinder can be flipped. Turn the wheel clockwise pulls on the valve which closes the piston, CC pushes which makes the piston go out. The other plus with this type is that you can still gently steer if the hydraulics are out.

Oh, I see. But doesn't the cylinder rod extend in a jerky motion, moving away from your steering linkage, in short jumps. Please forgive my ignorance in things hydraulic. I suspect then, that that some of my expected jerky movement is probably accounted for by the valving and there is only a smooth flow.

Im in the process of fitting PS to my L185. I am planning to use an automotive power steering pump. However I am unsure of that particular pump's capacity, and do they hold enough oil for the circuit. Or is the oil contained in the ram and lines etc.
Any advice appreciated, or anyone done this particular modification with a ps pump.

Gonz.

Using a car p/s pump has been done by "mr.pauls@verizon.net". Here is a post with some pictures. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/104139-p-s-b7100-7200-a-5.html You could PM him if you need more info. Right now mine is running off my engine pump but I think I will install a small pump from a Honda or Toyota with a remote bottle. When I use my loader I lose power steering which is annoying. I would think any pump would do the job, it really doesn't seem to take much pressure. Also, once the piston is full of fluid then very little is needed seeing it's just moving the fluid from one side of the piston to the other. Good luck and make sure you post back with pictures :)

You install looks great! I have the same tractor but I don't understand where the hyd oil pressure is attached. The two hoses under the seat? Mine does not have that part on it.Is that the flow valve for the steering?Do you have hoses that run to the steering box? Thank You for your Help.

Hello, Enjoyed your post. I need to know more on what was done. I do not understand where you got the Hydraulic pressure from. Did you have to change out the old steering box .Just purchased this L245Dt so I'm new to this.Thanks.

Bostonrats doesn't post much anymore. I know him from work. You could PM him directly if you can't tell enough from his pictures. I can tell you he did not modify anything but the actual arm from the steering box to the arm near the wheel (drag link??). I think he tapped into the hydraulics under the seat to power it, check out post 9. His loader gets hydraulics off a pump that runs off the front of the engine separate from the other pump. I hope this helps you, power steering is a great add on.
