Getting Kubota TLB L46. Need some help

Look lets say a tractor trailer bed 18 wheeler. Weighs in at 15k empty and my F250 is at 8k so I can just hook up to it and go. 23k total. You will have your ***** FINED OFF.

Have I once referenced what it weights? I have not.

I have even stated that it doesn't matter what it weights because it goes by GVWR.

Here is the number for the PA office of the FMCSA. Phone: (717) 614-4060

Maybe you will believe them.

These CDL topics always go this route, fellas its truly not either of your fault, its the government (weird I know). Obviously the people posting about what the Federal gov. regs are should know that that is the minimum standard. The individual states can however be MORE restrictive. It does get a little weird when you cross state lines also. The Commercial fellas have this covered with their Class A CDL. For instance I can tow triples (i.e. tow a boat behind my Fifth Wheel) here in Calif. (as long as I'm not over 65ft long tip to tip) but if I cross into Oregon I'm illegal, gotta drop the boat and come back for it. Also (by the way nice set up you got Tailrotor) by Calif. law (same as PA it seems) I am illegal everytime I tow my 14k GVWR flatbed behind my F350. Even though I have a Class B CDL and even if I tow it empty, because its weight rating is greater then 10k I need at least a non-commercial Class A to tow it legal here in CA. The over 26k thing only pertains to a single vehicle, no trailer. Over 10k GVWR trailer no matter what you tow with (unless its a Camping trailer ((figure that one out, no limit for those)), you need a Class A license to be legal. Here in CA I mean, I realize this is different state to state. They are well on their way to making us all frigging crazy.

I've followed some these "discussions" before and you've cleared up some stuff for me. I have trailer that's rated (stickered) at 12,000 lbs, unless I have a class a CDL I can't use it? I bought the trailer to give leeway when towing.

I'm kind being facetious here, but what's to stop me from removing the tag and putting one that says it's a 10,000lb trailer?

Because when you get pulled over and the cop says owners card and registration. It will show its a 14k trailer. Remember your trailer has a owners card and registration at least here in PA they do.

Why not change the thread title to "TLB L48", so it looks like we all know what we are reading about?

Not sure where your from but in CA yes, if you tow a trailer with a 12k GCWR you are illegal unless you have a Class A. Anything towed that has the weight rating over 10k lbs requires a Class A (can be a non-commercial) no matter what you tow it with. And yes you can go down to your local DMV (at least here in CA) and have your trailer de-rated to 10k lbs (its actually 10001 lbs that makes you illegal without a Class A) to be legal, then they will re-print the registration with the new numbers and you can then change the tag on the trailer. Good for you to buy something rated well above what you intend to haul.
