These CDL topics always go this route, fellas its truly not either of your fault, its the government (weird I know). Obviously the people posting about what the Federal gov. regs are should know that that is the minimum standard. The individual states can however be MORE restrictive. It does get a little weird when you cross state lines also. The Commercial fellas have this covered with their Class A CDL. For instance I can tow triples (i.e. tow a boat behind my Fifth Wheel) here in Calif. (as long as I'm not over 65ft long tip to tip) but if I cross into Oregon I'm illegal, gotta drop the boat and come back for it. Also (by the way nice set up you got Tailrotor) by Calif. law (same as PA it seems) I am illegal everytime I tow my 14k GVWR flatbed behind my F350. Even though I have a Class B CDL and even if I tow it empty, because its weight rating is greater then 10k I need at least a non-commercial Class A to tow it legal here in CA. The over 26k thing only pertains to a single vehicle, no trailer. Over 10k GVWR trailer no matter what you tow with (unless its a Camping trailer ((figure that one out, no limit for those)), you need a Class A license to be legal. Here in CA I mean, I realize this is different state to state. They are well on their way to making us all frigging crazy.
