Thanks for the quick responses ... we are kinda "redneck ville" The Sheriff is very aware of the neighbors, that particular group has taken up more than one bed in the county jail on more than one ocassion !!!

The sheriff would probably tell me to shoot the S.O.B. and I don't know if he would mean the dog!!! (just kidding)

Roy, adoption is not an option. I have two dogs .. one is a border collie australian shepard cross that stays chained with the exception of when I use him on stock, rides in the gator or pays an indoor visit. The other is an Anatolian LGD that lives with the chickens, hogs, mules and donkeys. The LGD at this point is keeping the neighbors dog "scared" BUT with enough visits The LGD may think its okay and start to relax and I don't want that.

I'm thinking about chaining him up and calling the pound and if that don't work advertise him on CL free to a good home ... Last resort will be to pull the trigger.

ON THE OTHER HAND ... if he does kill some chickens or something else ... well I may reconsider.

In my county, if you can trap the critter, animal control, will come and get live stock. For live stock they will bill the owners for keeping and feeding the animal. After a period of time they sell the animal at the stock yard.

I do not know what they would do with a dog but they very well might charge a dog or cat owner in similar circumstances.

If the dog was killing life stock then I would shoot it. Otherwise off to the pound. Sounds like the guy no longer wants the dog and wants you to take care of the dog one way or the other. POS is he.

Later,
Dan

Well first off your neighbour is an idiot. Second how about one of these, are they even remotely close to you? Pits can be good dogs if they have good owners and obviously this one doesn't and that will mean only trouble for the pup. If you are up to it, there are several Pitt rescues in Oklahoma.

Bully Breed Humane Society, Lawton, Oklahoma. 580-917-5720, 580-917-5734

Pit Bull and/or Amstaff Rescue 1017 Elm Perry , OK noblepits@gmail.com

Pit Bull Rescue Oklahoma - Home, Blanchard, OK

Pit Essentials Rescue, Norman, OK - pitessentials@yahoo.com

Oklahoma Bully Breed Rescue, Norman, OK - oklahomabullybreedrescue@yahoo.com

Hughs Pet Adoption, Pawhuska, OK, - 918-766-5019

BlackBelt Pit Rescue, Cushing, OK - 918-225-2866 / jenn_adkisson@yahoo.com

Edited to add the last one and noticed you're in the SouthEast of OK. Most of these likely are not close but you will be surprised how far some rescue organizations will travel to save a pup.

This is the best answer...at least the dog will have a chance...

However, do let your sheriff know what you're going to do...I think your neighbor is enough of a b**tard to claim you stole his dog.

You could always give the Dog a fighting chance for a new home ....next time he comes you could chain him up and advertise on Crag's list like another poster mentioned and give him away...It means you would have to feed him for a bit but he would end up in a home where someone wanted him...I agree, taking him to the pound is a death sentence....somebody would like to have him...Good Luck Blue

I do not know how populated your neck of the woods is, but an idea is to simply advertise "Friendly Watch Dog FREE" and look for a taker, maybe a simple sign by the road?...

We had really good luck with our local shelter. We always told them to give us a call if the dog was to be put down so we could see if there were other options and none were put down. I do know not all are like this which is why we took them there.

I am not well versed in guns but my granddad would shot them with rock salt, they did not come back after that. And he claimed it only stung and did not kill them. Does not help the dog, but may keep him off your property.

In your neck of the woods it sounds like you have two issues, the dog and the neighbors who sound like the type to drop a match on you in August if you pi$$ them off. Hate to say it, but the safety of your family takes precedent over a dog.

Talk to your propane driver and ask him if he knows someone that would like a dog. They know a lot of country folks. That's what I did the last time someone dumped two puppies on us. (Coyote ate one, but the other one got a new home.)

Pop him one in the butt with a pellet gun.
