I'd love to have an 02 Excursion with the 7.3l Powerstroke diesel.

Great truck. I bought a 2000 PowerStroke 4x4 - ordered it the first week the dealer was taking orders. I pulled a 32' trailer like it was on rails. ...miss that truck!

Yeah, it's tough keeping up with all the changes since they can't make one good dependable engine...

Insert snarky comment about Dodge here.

You could always buy the Dodge equivalent to an Excursion.....oh that's right, there isn't one.

If it weren't for Cummins, there probably wouldn't be any Dodge trucks to buy.

OK, I'm done capping on Dodge.

You can "cap" on Dodge all you want. If the Excursion was a good seller, I'm sure you would have seen a Chrysler version but they were busy creating the cross-over class (Pacifica) which is the largest selling class now.
The Cummins is just one of the great engines found in a Dodge truck. Don't forget the solid 318 V8, torque filled 360 V8, and the greatest normally aspirated gas engine ever put in a truck, HEMI 5.7.
But, to each his own...

My Cummins will still be chugging along when the truck rots around it.

You do realize that "HEMI" is marketing hype don't you? Maybe in the '50s the "Hemi" was new and different, but not so much anymore. I think everyone uses hemi heads on their engines these days.

You hardly ever hear "I bought a Dodge truck". It's "I bought a Cummins".

Chrysler should erect a statue of the guy who made the agreement with Cummins to provide engines to them.

All the companies make good engines, if the feds would leave the car companies alone, they wouldn't have to change/update engines every other year.

Call it hype if you want but the Dodge HEMI has a head design much closer to a hemispherical than any other manufacturer designs. Obviously no ones using the"pent roof" head design anymore. The hemi design is not very efficient hence the need for dual spark plugs but it's the reason for good low end torque and high rpm power.
Also, only the poorly designed engines need to be redesigned every couple of years. The HEMI was released in 03, added Multi Displacement System in 2006 and mostly unchanged since. Also, the Toyota and Nissan V8's have had very little changes as well...

Good for screaming while towing. Been there done that.

If memory serves me correctly the Chrysler Hemi's of the 50's/60's were chosen as they would allow higher compression ratios as compared to the wedge type heads.
Don't know if that still holds true for today.:)

Ha ha! More proof you never owned one. And this is coming from a guy who thinks that anemic Ford 5.4l and Nissan's 5200 rpm 316hp screamer are great towing engines! Too funny!
