Here is a progress report. I have all disassembled and ready for sandblasting. I have all new bearings, new disc openners, new coulter blades, fasteners, etc. I will blast it soon and then prime and paint. Then the fun starts, the reassembly. Here are some pix. The seed boxes were cleaned electrolytically, and the rest was washed in a parts washer and will be blasted. I still think I will make the final tool bar 8" wide (that's the widest I can comfortably transport) and initially make it a 3 row, 3 point hitch no-till version.

The electrolytic derusting process works pretty good doesn't it? I was impressed the first time I gave it a try. Looking good so far.

Been working on my two restorations. Since I have almost finished the disc, now I am reassembling the planter. I think my wife is going to divorce me. Its not another woman, but she thinks my implements and I are spending too much time together! Here is the latest. Got the three units almost finished, and all is going well. I'm sure glad I left one intact and can refer to it as a pattern. Pictures alone would have been hard! All is falling into place well. I bought a zillion bolts at TSC and seem to have all the parts I need. THe new parts (bearings, races, coulters, openners, pinion gears) all are perfect so no glitches so far.

I now have to decide how to mount them on the tool bar. I have the original crossbars that are 10 feet long, but I really don't want to surpass 8' width so it can be manuevered and trailered. So if I do 30" spacing, that makes two rows in my tire tracks. For food plots, would that be a problem? Or should I go closer. (I am talking about corn. what about soybeans?)

Sweet refurb! I like the way the unpainted bolts look on the fresh paint, great detail. For my plots, I opted to go with a 2 row planter. Thinking was, I didn't want to plant in a tire track. IIRC, my tires are at 58", corn and sunflowers spaced at 30". Since I don't have a row marker set-up, I just used the tire track from the previous row to drive in. Puts the rows in each pass a couple of inches off, one way or another. I did a search on row spacing, some good reading. What row spacing is best? : Corn Production is one Viewing a thread - Corn row spacing 20" 22" or 30"? is another link to some good info. I'm going to play around with it on a couple of my plots this year. How are you going to cultivate it, mechanical or chemical? That's a whole other discussion :). Beautiful planters, great work. Hope this helps. Mark
