Here is a update panorama shot of the shop. Can you spot the tractor?

IMG_20131008_132845_536.jpg

So far here is what I need

Engine tune up kit....................................$50
Ignition switch..........................................$20
Choke cable..............................................$15
Tach cable.................................................$15
Gauge cluster.............................................$70
All tie-rods.................................................$100
Center ball stud/pivot..................................$50
Lots of seals...............................................$150
Misc TA components...................................$200
TA clutch components...............................$200
Clutch and throwout bearing.........................$150
A few other odds and ends..........................$200
Paint and supplies.......................................$100

Puts me just shy of 2k with the purchase price. I think (hope) it will be worth 2x's that or close to it once restored and done right.

There are a ton of other odds and ends to fix, like broken/striped fastners, etc. But mechanically, everything was great. All the bearings feel great, and all of the gears look great.

sounds about right. I almost always figure 2x purchase price on a runner to refurb.. and 4x+/- on a non runner.

Now I just got to source some TA components.

One junkyard around here I was hopefull aout wants way too much for a used TA. They want $500 for the TA and TA clutch. A referb TA is ~$500, but I'd jsut rebuild myself for ~$200. And the clutch components are ~$200 for what I need. So I cant see spending more than buying new and having a rebuilt TA.

And all for a tractor sitting in a boneyard that they probably paid $500 for total....:mur:

I wish that guy that has lots of parts on ebay would call.

For some items that are hard to find, I post a "want to buy" ad on TractorHouse. Salvage yards call you, and give the price. There can be quite a difference in prices, but you also have to keep in mind the shipping costs. I have also had yards drop their price to make the sale, when I told them I found one for less money. I wasn't BS-ing them either... Told them to call and check... Best to wait 36 hrs or so for all to respond.

For seals & bearings, if you can't find the number on either, you can cross it through NAPA's online site. You can check Messicks for dealer price on them, then check NAPA's price. NAPA AUTO PARTS

Most definitely run the part number from NAPA (actual bearing or seal part number) on JBR's site. They deal in NOS bearings & seals, and most run 40-50% less than NAPA, Bearings Inc., etc. Usually took a week to get them shipped, but it was worth the wait to me. Everything I got a couple years ago was Timken U.S.A. & CR seals.

Well, got all the seals and stuff I need ordered.

Two brake rod seals, two brake housing seals, Two TA case seals, Trans input shaft carrier seal, one outboard wheel seal, two brake housing o-rings, and input shaft carrier o-ring.

Total damage was $84 delivered:thumbsup: from various sources on ebay. All good stuff. SKF/CR or National/timken stuff.

Napa wanted over $150 for the same stuff not counting the o-rings.

I also managed to source a TA. Complete everything. Clutch components, and even the shift fork that I need. Came out of a working and operating tractor that was converted to a pulling tractor and a TA delete kit installed. Guy is out of kentucky and a truck driver and running a load up near me tuesday. So I will meet up with him and take it off his hands for $150:thumbsup:

All I will need to complete the TA then is the throwout bearing, and maybe a clutch disk depending on how it looks. I will also take a look at the ramps and rollers for the O/R clutch.

Absolutely.

Good timing too. He had it listed on ebay for $125 bid style and $69 to ship, and only 22hrs left and no takers. I sent him my phone #. He called me because I wanted to ask him about the shift fork too. Mine was seized on the shaft, and no amount of heat and pounding was bringing it off. After seeing that they were ~20 bucks on ebay, I used a zip disc and sliced it off. HE had one of those and is bringing it with him.

The parts list still left to order is getting smaller, and it looks like I am going to stay under my $2k budget including purchase price:thumbsup:

Heres a few update shots

IMG_20131018_085727_817.jpgIMG_20131018_085759_570.jpg

Still waiting on a few seals so I can install the input shaft, and main throwout bearing, then I can marry the engine back up.

Seals are due on monday. So I guess that gives me 3 days to get the engine ready. Need to replace the rear main seal, then a good cleaning, then paint.Once all of that is done, its just down to sheet metal and small bolt on parts:thumbsup: Might have her done before Christmas, even though this was supposed to be my winter project:laughing:
