Cheaper oil filters

you can't compair apples to oranges. if you are compairing between brands, you can't pick the economy fram and comapir it to a premium upgrade of another line.

A 3$ fram C3 will not compete with a Napagold 1010 The C3P is closer.. but the C3 is just about as basic as you can get. can't comapir a 3$ filter to a 10$ filter... like comapiring a cheesburger to a sirloin...

I don't have a problem with anyone that uses a Fram on their vehicles ,equipment, etc, Where I believe the problem comes in is, when someone says the $5.00 Fram is just as good as a $10.00 wix, $15.00 fleetguard etc,. There may be a Fram that competes with the higher priced filters. I don't know. I do know that there is a reason that cheap oil filters of any brand are cheap, Because they use cheap material... Again, I couldn't care less what oil filter/ oil anyone uses

I wonder how many current - real cases of oil filter failure out there are in existance. ( any brand ).

I have pulled many frams off and you can shake the filter and the filter element will rattle. The same goes for those quick lube oil filters. I would consider that to be a failure.

And that's why I stated in my post that, Fram may have a filter that can compete with the high priced filters. I don't know because, I don't use Fram filters. I don't eat those sirloins either. I prefer a good fillet:D

I only occasionally use Fram--and then only the high-end filter but have never heard of a Fram filter failure.

i assume you have the ruined engine and 3rd party testing to submit and prove that?

Post it in pdf format so everyone can read it.

I'm interested in seeing the data.

USAF recommends changing the oil on tractors only every 400 hours, or 6 months. And their tractors are usually used 24/7 by at least 3 different guys or gals each day. So to change every 100 hours is excessive in my professional opinion.

I do believe the 100hrs spec is due to that being the avg 'most' people put on a tractor in a year, which is the longest oil should be in a crankcase according to the OEM's.. larger farmers, industrial, etc tend to put on way more and the 6month rule seems to be a better fit.

Of all the services you have done that have left your shop with a fram filter, how many came back with engine troubles? None is my guess?

They bought Champion labs, things are improving.
Actually, this bashing of FRAM started due to a lot of circle track racers losing oil and destroying engines years back. it was traced to incorrect thread sizes on the FRAM filters being used.

Or was it motorcycles? I forget now..

Then there is the infamous use of cardboard end caps instead of metal...

I agree, I would step up to a better filter. A wix filter would not be much more than a fram.

Fleetfilter.com can hook any make tractor up with top-quality Wix filters for a good price. I would not wipe my behind with a Fram orange can of death.
