Yea, I have never had much luck with yellow in a spray can. Have tried the rustoleum industrial safety yellow alot at work, JD brand yellow, BPS brand JD yellow, valspar, plain rustoleum, etc. Mostly for touch ups on mower decks and my meyer plow that I painted JD yellow cause I already had a quart. When I painted the plow, I actually got yellow primer, cause I knew yellow didnt cover well no matter what. When I painted the JD261 mower deck I had, I used grey primer. And took several light coats to cover it. Much better results with yellow primer, but I know it isnt as common as grey or red primer.
