Just want to say Hi from NJ and let you know how much I have learned from this site. I have had a JD 4010 CUT w/fel for a few years and it has worked well pushing snow in my yard and driveway. I decided after all the snow and cold this year to look for something with a cab. I found a like new 3320 w/cab and FEL not far from home and pulled the trigger and brought it home. What a great machine!! The first time I pushed snow I thought the 4wd wasn't working, as soon as I got into some heavy snow or wanted to stack it up the wheels broke loose. The old 4010 had turf tires and was a bear in the snow, not much would stop it. I check my new 3320 and 4wd was working fine. I then went and bought a ballast box and filled it with sand, about 450 lbs hanging off the 3pt. The R4 tires on the 3320 were loaded so with all that weight I was sure it would push snow with ease. Still the tires would spin. After doing some searching I came upon this thread and read it twice to be sure I wanted to cut my like new tires. Thought about chains but didn't want the damage on the asphalt. Well I went to the local speed shop and got an Ideal tire grooving iron with #4 cutter. Spent all morning today in the garage smelling burnt rubber and put a groove in the center of each lug. We were supposed to get alot of snow tonight and I wanted to be ready. I took the tractor outside to and area in the yard that had not been plowed at all this year. The other day I did a small part of this area with uncut tires and had some difficulty with piling up the snow. Well this time was different, I tried 2wd and did a real good job of getting thru the untouched areas and was able to fill the bucket with snow. I put it 4wd and not only did I fill the bucket but was able to keep going and push much farther into the untouched snow than I could previously. When I got to the pile to stack the snow, the tractor would climb the pile like the 4010 used to. I did manage to break the tires free a couple of times but now you can feel the torque, the engine bog a bit, and a little shudder in the wheels before they break loose. I'm very happy I cut the tires, really thought I made a mistake getting rid of the 4010 for a while. We are not going to get hit with much snow this evening as forecast so I am really curious to see how much better they will be on some fresh snow. As soon as we get some more snow I will let you all know how much better it is and report back. Thanks for a great site:) IMG_20140209_130624_631.jpgIMG_20140209_130636_837.jpgIMG_20140302_120330_201.jpgIMG_20140302_134146_037.jpg

:welcome:

what a great post and proof that there are some very good take away ideas here.
Glad you had such good luck with siping and a very nice looking tractor.
Bet you were nice and comfy in there, and a big smile on your face while you were plowing...

Well no one really posted an R1 tire cut so I thought I'd try mine. Working out so far, did the tire in like 10 minutes. Much easier than I thought. I also found out if you flip the blade over you can but sipes in the tire as well, two evenly spaced ones that is, if you want sipes as well.

I will admit, I did not red all 25 pages of this thread. But I think I read enough to get the idea of grooving or siping the tires. I have been reproving and siping my pickup tires for a couple years and makes a WORLD of difference.

Here is my delema. I just bought aFord 260C industrial tractor(4wd). The front tires are BALD so it needs new ones. I really like the traditional R4 ties, but I am pretty sure New ones will ear up the grass in my yard, so I was looking for something a bit more "tame" I stubbled across the BKT Sure Trax HD Skid Steer Tire and Harvest king or Jetzon Sure Trax HD tire.

Does anyone have any experience with these tires?
