Here is the list of Dept of Energy loans that include the Ford $5.9 billion loan. They have only just started paying that off so yes, they are being built with our tax dollars.

Thanks Ruffdog and Two bit score .........a few times I have highlighted that same issue about Ford taking tax money just like the rest of them.... ...but Diamond goes silent when it is brought up. It wouldn't be so bad ......but when i see a blatant lie on his avatar picture day in and day out...........I wonder what else a person like that would be gullible about.

DP is a very knowledgeable and helpful guy and his only fault (as far as I know) is his spite for GM. Other than that he is one of the best guys on TBN. But I agree with you that if one puts a comment like that on there he is going to invite skepticism.

They took grant money, not a bailout....

Not even close to the same thing.

What really rubs me is us as a government allowed GM to get special treatment. We all know what/who that goes back to. Bankruptcy and normal treatment is what should have happened then they would have earned my respect as a responsible company. Instead nothing changed from upper management to the UAW.

Let's sit back and watch history repeat itself.

Both are funded by tax dollars. Either way, we pay the bill. Always have, always will.

Umm, yeah…..it's kind of a distinction without a difference to say tax money for a grant and tax money for a bailout is not the same thing.

Really hate inserting my two cents in here but as a retired accountant and CPA, a government loan, as long as it's being paid back, is not funded by tax dollars. To the government, it's an asset - an accounts receivable of sorts - not an expenditure as the bailout was. No comparison. Government loans are made all the time to spur investment in one thing or another. Grants and bailouts are subsidies and much different than loans. OK, back to the issue of GM recalls.

Thanks for your input.

That's a fair statement as far as it goes. From the standpoint of the statement "Ford - built without your tax dollars", it would seem that a loan helps get the product to the customer and without it the product could not be produced and marketed so the statement is not 'true'.

How many new business buildings being built have had a sign out front proclaiming " Financing provided by CNB Bank" or some other bank? That would make me think that without a loan (from someone) the building would not be built and the business may not expand or even exist at all. So if you are saying that as an accounting rule a loan, if it is being repaid, is an asset I fully agree. But, how is that the same as 'being built with out tax money'?
