There are methods for separating the ethanol from the fuel, but your octane goes with it. They use ethanol to boost the octane rating, so if you remove it, you end up with a very low grade fuel

You are indeed fortunate. I was referring to my location in southern Maine. I used to be able to get 93 octane fuel laced with ethanol for my snowmobile, but they have discontinued that in my local area. Highest octane fuel available is 91 and it's all 10% ethanol regardless of brand

good luck my friend. one hopes as this problem continues, additives will improve. quik use turnover, reliable supplier, & good additives hopefully will be your friends. good to talk to someone w/o the political agenda.

Agreed. No matter your political preference, Rep, Dem, Ind, we're all in this stew togeather

The fact that we're not even allowed to choose ethanol gas or real gas, like choosing octane ratings, or choosing 2% or whole milk... it's so, so very wrong.

My 2 cents. I use gas with a shot of Sea Foam now and again and have NO problems.
I find ethanal gas works only if you use the machine often.
If it sits for more than a couple of weeks your in trouble. Drain it and run her dry is all I can say if you have to leave it sit.

When they stop the subsidies, it will die out...

What subsidies? All subsidies targeted at ethanol have been eliminated for a few years now. Now, oil.... they still get some subsidies that they have gotten for over a century. Why are you not crying foul over the oil companies getting taxpayer money? Subsidies are actual money transfers to an entity. There is no such animal for the ethanol folks now, and hasn't been for a few years now.

Since ethanol has no more subsidies, and it is selling for a roughly a dollar less on the Chicago Board of Trade (you know., commodity central) than gasoline is, then the ethanol folks must really be losing their shirt. And even with government mandates, the price of the stuff is still what it is on the board of trade. The producer is only going to get what the market says they are going to get.

Now if you think a reduction in tax for ethanol producers is a subsidy, that would be wrong. It is called cost of doing business and an expense. All expenses are written off. Be it those guys or the local plumber, or any other business. It is done on the schedule C on the 1040. But I would go along with not letting ethanol producers get to write off their business expenses, if everyone also gives up their dependent deduction, child care tax credit, mortgage interest deduction, medical cost deductions, etc, etc. They have a name for that. Wait a minute, it will come to me..... oh yeah, it is called the Fair Tax.

Here in NY the Nice and Easy stores have non-ethanol fuel but it is hi test or super. Not available in regular so to get it you have to pay the well over $4.00 a gallon. I use it in my Classic cars and My 2012 Camaro requires Super or high octane gas. My riding mower (JD) and gas generator / welder run fine on the regular with ethanol.
And, according to buyrealgas.com there are no stations in NJ that sell non-ethanol. It says it may be due to state regulations. You'll have to go to PA or NY to get non ethanol.

George2615 Your small motors may run fine with ethanol but they won't for long. If they sit, the fuel will absorb water from the air. That's what ethanol does when exposed to air. Run real gas in all small motors, outboards, chainsaws etc. Ask any repair shop and they will tell you 98% of all small motor problems are fuel related and caused by guess what... They love it. Here in WI the repair shops are backed up two weeks now.

I think ethanol is crap as well and just another American hoax like fluoride added to our drinking water. Why are we adding silica fluoride which is a residual by product from fertilizer production to water when calcium fluoride occurs naturally? Because someone can make a buck from waste product. You think we have the highway system we do for the Good of America? We have the hwy system we have because General Motors wanted to sell more cars pure and simple as mass transit was a giant threat to this. You think we need a product that burns 10-15% less efficient than gasoline because its good for the environment? We have ethanol because of the proliferation of profit it provides garnered by agricultural lobby groups. How do you think our senators and congressman come out so well to do after they serve?
