Tractor Sizing Tractor pto for 7 foot cutter

Nice mower ... but I can't imagine that a 3pt model would require more HP to run than a pull behind one.

If you look at the specs for each, you will see that most manufactures rate the pull type as less HP.

My next cutter will be an 8' multi-spindle pull type. I grew up on pull type cutters, and I just like them better.

They are super easy to hook up. And you set the height you want to cut and forget about it. The height is not affected by what the tractor is doing going in or out of dips, berms and terraces.

IMO, the only negative is the maneuverability, mainly backing up. The silver lining, though, is that you can cut under trees and other overhangs better than you can with a 3 point hitch model.

Well let me know if you're in the market for one :D

I think the shipping from MI to TX might be more than the cost of the cutter. :)

I just went from an 8 foot dual spindle to a 7 foot. The 8 footer was easier to run, but requires more maintenance, if your mowing real heavy grass and loading it down the rubber discs will need replaced about once a year. That was my case anyway, was a $400 shot each time.
I bought a new heavy duty 7 footer for my mowing needs.

Knowing what I know now, I would have gone for the pull type as well. Mainly for how much better they follow the contour of the ground and ease of hookup as you mention. I was worried about the difficulty of backing up but after getting use to my tractor more on the hills, I end up going up and down most of them anyway.

I easily run a 6' with my Ford 3000, about 36 PTO hp.
Mark

But that is a 4000# - 7000# machine! The M6060 is about 5000#, so barely heavier and likely lighter; the L6060 is almost the same weight as the Ford 4000 on the low end.

Out B2410 runs a 4' shredder just fine, but it is too light to "handle" the cutter. A FEL or more front weights would solve that easily enough.

It's funny how most of us can back up a trailer in our sleep, but we worry about backing up a pull-type mower. When you think about it, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Another advantage of the pull-type on hills is not having a heavy cutter hanging off the 3 point hitch making the front end of the tractor light.

TNWV How do you like your kodiak cutter? I have a 7' hd pulling with my jd5075e. I have tore the skid shoe off one side and bent both tail wheels bush hogging.Sure i have backed into some trees. ha. I have to bush hog some woody places. I think I will go with a Brown on my next one though.
