The market generally expresses quality via retained value.

Of course two cars can go down the same line and have different badging... Corolla and Geo Prizm come to mind... of course the Dealer network support are not the same, yet the Corolla retains higher resale.

Hi all, Newbie tractor owner....love my 2014/25DLB-1. OEM Mech. thumb, BXpanded under armor, Messicks seat cover, bought a ++++OEM WSM. Only error I made is... I believe, that I should have purchased the R4 tires instead of the Turfs. I'm currently planning to convert the tractor over to " R4 rims and tires". Dealer tells me it's not an expensive mod. Read every post, especially 4shorts' mods and considered the dealer network too .Here in MA/RI Kubota is excellent for support. I own and drive a Cummins Ram and really liked the common rail engine in the tractor..although..I would like to a see better filter/water drain and a fuel filler debris screen IMO only.

I have a Cummins Ram too. You sir have fine tastes! (0:

Excellent point. And to that point... Which badge remains to this day? Corolla.... With it's name brings a hard earned rep of economy, reliability, and QUALITY. Hence the higher resale.

Good points. I still stand behind my original statement in the under 50 hp category. It's kinda like Glock handguns. In general a very reliable, well made brand when it comes to pistols.

Man I hate....HATE glock. Funky trigger, plastic....heck I had plastic guns when I was 5 I sure don't want one when I am 50. They just don't fit, and name me one hand gun that is not in general very reliable, well made.

I do that not to pick a fight (well just a little ;) ) but to say tractors today are the same....In general you go with one of the major makers you are going to get a quality product, that is just flat going to work. Might it have an issue here or there....sure, it is made by man, so there is a chance it will be screwed up....heck if it was made by god it could have been a mistake (explain ticks to me ;) )

Point is in looking for a machine.....any machine be it a pistol or a tractor, try out as many as you can. Now if you already have a safe full of pistols or a barn full of tractors and you want another one for this one thing (read toy) then you don't have to shop so much...you know you want that 1911 or that John Deere. But if you are new to the area and buying a machine for the first time, you need to hold as many as you can, or put your fanny in the seat. That it the only way you know for sure.

Then you get into the entire 9mm vs .45 debate vs .380.....big vs small. My views on that are widely known, and if you want my two bits PM me and I will share with you, but I would like to not pollute this thread with that if possible. Lets just say that some think that 45 is the only way to go and to do less is just not going to help you at all. However IMHO I know I don't want to be shot by a 22.

I don't necessarily think any brand is the "best". Each brand has different models that stand out, but as machines they are all susceptible to mechanical or electronic failure at some point.

I owned a Kioti that blew a seal in the steering column within the first 25 or so hours. Then it was perfect up to 200 when I sold it, except for another pinched O-ring in one of the loader connections. I owned an LS tractor (same as the NH Boomer 50) that was perfect (up to 150 hrs when I sold it) except for a headlight fuse. I've put now 135 hard & fast hours on this Massey (in 4 months) and it hasn't had any issues. Of the tractors I've owned, the Massey feels like the best overall quality. Sitting inside my Massey, directly next to my buddies Grand L Kubota, you can tell that they probably build & design them near eachother and probably source many of the same parts suppliers (Iseki & Kubota) as there are many similarities.

But, I'm not going to go around saying Massey has the best tractors under 50 HP. Actually, from what I've seen personally and read here on the forum, most every tractor brand is about as good as the rest. Any brand can have problematic units of course, but it truly seems like most tractors these days are very competitive. The exception might be TYM (no offense to TYM guys) as there seem to be a higher ratio of problem threads posted here.

I'd have to disagree, although I respect your opinion, I believe it is based on previous misconceptions and biased towards product familiarity.

I'll be the first to admit that our first line of tractors were rather problematic, but prior to the release of the Tier 3 and now Tier 4 lines we have greatly exceeded the quality of several competitors.(If not all)
I do understand where you are coming from, however, I would ask that you see us as we are NOW and not as we were many years ago. :)

As for the forum threads, they have been answered mostly through private messaging due to the file restrictions. (Most of our service bulletins etc are done through pdf, as well as owners manuals etc.)

I have to say you forgot the crappy grip angle too.

Now back to the original topic...................................

Re: best tractor... tough to call. I don't really think there is one, just personal preference and the luck of the draw as to whether it was made on the day before a holiday.

I have a lawn tractor for grass so the mower is not an issue with me!

Well if you don't need a mower - why not get a larger heavier more powerful and capable tractor.-

When push comes to Shove there is no comparison . the larger tractors with larger tires ride much better also... A slightly used compact or even utility tractor can in some cases be bought for not much more money than a new SCUT and you will get a loader that will pick up and carry that entire SCUT...

and after re reading your original post about digging up stumps and digging a pond i would be looking at something larger than an SCUT my :2cents:

I personally think quality is there with all the brands of tractor, except maybe for them cheap Chinese ones, can't think of there name. However one of the original remarks was about digging a pond, someone said it could be done with a 25 hp tractor, I could walk from Illinois to California too but who would want to try, I have a 45 hp kioti with tons of oower and would not start a pond with it , I have a small 70 hp track loader and it would take weeks with it, rent a track hoe!!!! You'll be glad

He was a crotchety old cuss that was still full of p!ss and vinegar, so that name fit me fine.

Depends on the pond and the soil. I dug my small pond when I had my little Kioti CK20, because that's the tractor I had available. Only took a couple weeks.

Of course it's not the ideal tractor to dig a large pond with, but if that's what you have available, then that's what you use.

I am Happy with my co-workers just don't trust them. A lot of our prints started out on Bar Napkins.
Do you work in the agricultural industry. ALL the manufacturers are major users of solid modeling to design their products. This model is a student project: the major manufacturers would go far beyond to simulating operating loads to find weak links in the design over 10's or 100's of thousands of operating cycles.

I'd be very surprised that any are still using prints on the manufacturing floor.

Finally decided on the Max 24! Received the tractor today. Know, learn how to use it.
Post up any surprises, good and bad. The Max28 size seemed appealing for what we want to do, though their Mitsubishi-built models have other advantages than the TYM-built machines sold here as Mahindra Max.

(mechanical engineer). I am a Machine assembler and I have NO faith in mechanical engineer's.

I just spit my beer out.....When I was an electrician some of the designs of the lights and equipment left me scratching my head in amazement that someone with a Masters degree designed this turd...This is so true and so funny!

Engineers are just people too, with an analytical mind. Real world application is sometimes WAY off and out of touch for sure!

Glock, don't get me started on Glock's....That's just laughable honestly, there are better options.
