Keep in mind that you can run a grapple off the rear remotes it you have them. May save you some money.

Just got her home. Went ahead and got a Modern Ag 6' box blade since the most pressing job is dirt work, next I need a 6' shredder, a disc and a 2 bottom plow. Then add the 3rd function and get a grapple. I have a PTO post hole digger but after I get the 3rd function, I might get a front end PHD instead.

Be careful if you use a diverter instead of another spool for the 3rd function. Not sure if your loader valve has regent on the dump spool. That won't play nicely with a hydraulic motor.

The tractor looks great. Sounds like you got a really good deal on a nice tractor. Well done!

By the way, I run my grapple off one set of rear remotes, and it works fine. If I was using it all day every day, I'd get a 3rd function for it. But for my use, the rear remote is plenty satisfactory.

X2 - exactly what we said! (well done Pappy)

Nice tractor. I am sure you will like it. Remotes were not standard equipment. I got a quote for a W.R. Long third function installed of $1000. The NH #1 remote kit is $985 just for the kit. I will use the third function more than a remote so I am leaning that way. Currently I don't have anything that has to have a remote.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

At the risk of seeming retarded, what are remotes and how do I know if I have them?

The dealer quoted me $985 for the 3rd function installed, the buttons are already on the joystick so I believe it's a fairly easy install. I dropped $6500 on the down payment today though, and didn't want to finance any more than I already was, so it's going to have to wait.

In case anyone is looking at financing used, New Holland gave me 6.8% for 36 months. I was really hopping for 6% but Kubota Credit was at 8.17% for 36 months so I'm happy with the 6.8%, plus the insurance through NH was about $200 less so it saved me about $100 over the life of the loan.

Oh, and after hooking up the box blade on the 3 point, I know I definitely made the right choice. The NH is so much better thought out in this area than anything I've used before, it made the hookup a breeze. I can't wait to get it in the dirt.

Not a dumb question. Remotes are hydraulic hookups on the back above the PTO to operate equipment. There are two connectors for each remote and there was a max of 3 remotes. On the right fender there are slots where the levers are located. If the only lever on the right fender is the 3PT lever you don't have any remotes. They were options.

800 hours is nothing on a quality name brand tractor like this. Yours looks to be well cared for and you saved some money to boot. Nice choice.

Thanks, I don't have remotes, only the implement height lever. I guess those would be used for stuff like rototillers?

What about the rear mounted backhoes, are those generally powered by the PTO or remotes? That's something I'd like to add at some point as well. Not because I have any specific need for it but because I want a backhoe... :)

I can't answer about the backhoe, never had one on a CUT. The only one I ever used was a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB) like a Case 580 Extend-A-Hoe.

A factory added backhoe will usually run off of a remote. Most aftermarket backhoe kits will come with a PTO mounted pump.

Yes...

All of the above. PTO is less common. To accomplish that with a remote you need a spool with a detent to stick in the on position (or to bungee the valve on while using the hoe).

Usually the hoe is plumbed into the power beyond loop just like adding a 3rd function valve. You need to be careful about hooking up the hoe & connecting things back up properly when unhitching. Read up in the hydraulics forum on how power beyond works, its enlightening & will prevent you from messing things up if you mess with the hydraulics.

Other uses for rear remote hydraulic connections:
To fold and unfold batwing mower sections hydraulically.
To operate hydraulic equipped rear blades, to adjust angle, or side to side position
To operate Top N Tilt cylinders. In other words changing out the jackscrews of the top link and the right lift link. Instead of getting on and off of your tractor every 2 minutes to re-adjust angle of attack and tilt of a rear blade, you can do it on the fly. Also TnT goes hand in hand with one piece quick hitches. Makes hook up faster and easier.
To operate hydraulic log splitters.
As mentioned before a cheap way to operate grapples etc. if you already have rear remotes. (I do this with mine)
To operate hydraulic dump trailers.
To operate hydraulic actuated rippers on a box blade
To operate anything else hydraulically operated, that you can buy or think up and build.:)
Hydraulics are a wonderful thing, and the older and weaker you get, the nicer it is to have them!

Good luck with you beautiful new tractor, I think you made a good decision, and I am sure it will serve you well for many years.

This is correct. Adding remotes is not that hard. I would buy a 2 or 3 spool rather than a single. You identify the "out" (power beyond) fitting on your FEL joystick, route a new hose back to where ever you mount your spool (assuming you do not use a factory spool), then route the "out" (power beyond option on the spool) back to wherever the FEL's power beyond hose was going (usually the 3 pt control). In addition, you need to run a hose to the tank (transmission). Then of course, you need to configure your hookups to the spool for your attachments. Make sure you get the quick connect points over the ground, not over your tractor since they do drip.
