3/4 ton vs. 1 ton

   / 3/4 ton vs. 1 ton #71
I just checked the dealer's web site and it's still there.

I talked to my brother yesterday and he drives a truck just like this one as his work truck. He has been a John Deere mechanic for about 30 years.

He said 'don't get it, it won't have any power'

Does he drive a cab & chassis model? Those trucks are detuned from the factory and its well documented on the Cummins forum.

Yes, his truck is a cab and chassis model, just like the one I'm looking at is the cab and chassis model. And that's why I hesitate buying it. Because it has less power than my current truck.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a C&C unless you need the payload of a 4500/5500 or if you're willing to void the warranty by programming. Obviously you can buy a regular 3500 and throw on a flatbed!

Funny story- my uncle special ordered a 2007.5 C&C when they first came out and had all kinds of problems mounting a flatbed to it since the frame was different.

Did he order the true C&C or the bed delete option on the pickup model? The C&C model comes with the industry standard 34" 50,000 psi frame that is deeper than the pickup version. Another benefit to the C&C is the standard 52 gallon fuel tank and the Aisin transmission.

I was wondering the same thing, C&C's are built to industry (not manufacturer) standards for frame width and cab to axle measurements which makes it easy to mount any aftermarket body option.

Well...I've pretty much decided to NOT get the C & C truck. I talked to another mechanic and asked him about it. He said "You won't like it....it's a turd"

I'll just keep what I have for now and just keep my eyes open for another deal.

Thanks to everyone who added to the discussion.

I just don't see that I have a 5500 with 18' box 4x4 6.7 and don't feel it's under powered in the slightest. I don't feel the need to drag race it though it's a work truck. The power the C&C trucks have now is far more than the beloved 7.3 power stroke or any of the diesels until recently.

Not saying your choice is wrong because it's your choice. Just want people to know the C&C trucks are more than capable.

He purchased a true C&C model. What happened is the truck was built to industry standards but the Gooseneck Manufacturing bed he purchased was not. The flatbed was made for a regular pickup truck frame.

Another update.....The truck is still available, so yesterday, I texted the salesman asking him to make me an offer I can't refuse.

He forwarded it to his sales manager who replied that the difference would now be $10.5 to $11k. The first offer was a difference of $9k.

I told him I am not interested at 9k.
