What I find interesting about this thread is how much in common folks have now relative to the old days. I remember growing up, folks from the south came to Detroit to work, I could tell where they were from, the people from eastern Kentucky sounded much different than the folks from Arkansas. I think people moving around the country, and the effect of tv and modern communications have homogenized the country. In SE Michigan, most folks have relatives from the south. In Florida, it's hard to find a 2nd or 3rd generation native.
I will say that NYC folks seem pretty abrupt. And the folks from Maine seem like they were born arguing.
