Comparison Kubota VS Yanmar

   / Kubota VS Yanmar #11
I know several people with Yanmars around here, and they all love them. Same said for Kubota owners. I've noticed that there are almost NO used Yanmars on the market. There are many many used Kubota tractors for sale. That might be due to the ratio of units sold. It seems like the Yanmar people are holding on to what they have. My NH salesman says nothing but great things about them (he sells them too) but is a pretty honest guy, and I totally trust him.

All that said, I know for a fact that used Kubota tractors will retail for more in the future if you plan to sell. I think either one will be great for you!

You must be getting a LOT of bells and whistles ! I bought a new Yanmar LX410 with FEL in 2012 for $18,500. Yep, it's a bit smaller than the 45hp model, but $42k is a LOT of money !

People say this all the time, and it sure doesn't fit what I've seen personally or what other people have posted here after selling machines. When I sold my LS, which should have a very poor resale value according to many, it was 15 months old, had 215 hours on it, and I got $2K less than what I paid for it. I don't believe that a Kubota, or any other brand, would hold its value significantly better than that. That was with zero advertising and all of a 30 second negotiation on price.
I think it greatly depends on location. I have never even seen a LS tractor. You can bet they don't sell good around here. It appears that there are only 5 LS dealers in TN. The closest one to me is 60 miles away in Kentucky.

Gosh, I'm really shocked that the Yanmar is that expensive! I'd think it would be VERY hard pressed to match the Grand L in quality, reliability, long-term parts availability, and certainly resale value.
Would be a super easy choice for me IF I was equally happy with the ergonomics and dealers for both tractors.

Both good brands, but Yanmar support is generally less. Resale has to go with the Kubota. Maybe in 5 or 10 years Yanmar will have the support and resale, but not now. Grand L is hard to beat so if price is equal, no hesitation in my mind.

Know for a fact how ??
I'm still not convinced that resale is all that different between most brands

Just found an L4060 HST with 47 hours on it....$25K. So much for the better resale value everybody claims. It can't be more than two years old (give or take) since Kubota started making that model in 2013. Two years, 47 hours, and probably $4-5K less than it sold for new. It looks to be in very nice condition.

If a Kubota is what someone wants or is the best fit for their needs, it makes sense to go that direction. This ridiculous claim that resale will be higher shouldn't be one of those reasons.

Sorry but I just don't see that happening around here much at all. So I cant see it as fact.

Used Kubota L4060 in Hilliard, Ohio

What was it originally purchased for? Unless you know that you can't say it didn't hold its value.

Of course we don't what the original buyer paid for it, but it's not exactly a secret what prices were for that model in the last two years or so. The OP's current quote is for $31K. They've averaged less than $1K a year increase for the last few years. That puts the tractor I linked somewhere in the $29K range on average...maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. Even if the original buyer got it for a really good deal at $28K, it's still $3K loss, which is worse than what I did with my "off brand" LS. I put four times the hours on it, and only "lost" $2K.

Besides, dealers don't set their prices based upon what they buyer paid for the machine...that's irrelevant to them. They paid even less, or gave less in trade, for it than what they're selling it for, so the owner likely lost even more than the number above.

Here's a quote for a new L4060 back in 2013....$28K for HST with a loader.
