I want power mirrors, power windows, heat, air conditioning, and 4x4. Do they even sell trucks anymore without that? I can't afford the rest of that luxury crap. Actually I can't afford a new truck anyway, but making trucks a luxury vehicle hasn't helped anything.

Mrs B&D wanted a truck and bought a loaded SLT GMC. Power everything and we use it all. Except for the sunroof. Opened it once to see if it works and what the big deal was about. Suppose the sunroof could be handy next November for the passenger to shoot deer from.

I'll keep my hopped up, no emissions 7.3 IDI IH, thank you. Something about lighting up the 33 x 10'50's out back that makes me smile. Could be that stream of particulates out the exhaust pipe as well, but it might be the 21 mpg I get from my one ton 4x4 that really does it.....:cool2:

LOL, I have an F250 4x4 with a 7.3 in it. It's a great engine and I'll never get rid of it but, I'm going to have to call BS on this unless you're driving like a grandma and your post tells me that's not the case. Before ULSD, I could do 18 - 19 on the highway empty, since ULSD I'm lucky to see 16, it's usually more like 15. Towing the tractor, I'm happy to see 11.

I seriously doubt they will worry about out pulling the precious little Ecoboost. With a 12K tow rating, they are really pushing the limits of sanity with a lightweight 1/2 ton truck. I don't care what standard they use, pulling that kind of weight in a squirrely situation with a sub 5,000lb truck will have a huge increase on the "white knuckle" ride factor. My Open Range 5th wheel has a 12,700 GVW and there is no way I would want a 1/2 ton in front of it. Uphill and level is nothing, it's a windy steep downhill that will take you to church.

The Ram EcoDiesel doesn't out pull it and it does not seem to be hurting their sales. I think Ford might be shooting them selves in the foot with the EcoBoost and a diesel in the F150.

Maybe dropping the Ecoboost?

My Grandpa used to have the same truck. After he chipped it he claimed it got 20 plus mpg empty. Unfortunately he made a huge mistake and traded it for a 6.0.

It's not 1985 anymore. I weight all my vehicles at the CAT scales. I have not had a 1/2 ton truck since then that's weighed that. My current F150 Ecoboost weighs about what my 1996 Chevy 3500 dually with a 454, about 5,800#. My last 1/2 ton truck, a 08 Nissan Titan was about the same.

Heck, I remember when it was a 3/4 or 1 ton was 6,000# now your lucky to find a gas one at 7,000# and a diesel at 7,600#.

But the law says that an older 90 dually can more safely pull a 12k trailer than a new 150 with more power, weight, and larger brakes. Go figure.

I honestly can't remember but I don't think it was rated more than 12K.

You know Ford dropped the 3.5L Ecoboost engine into a 3/4 and 1 ton Transit vans.

Here is my ecoboost chugging down the road pulling 10,000 pounds. You tell me.

The ecoboost is here to stay. I think Ford needs to drop the 3.5ffv (non- ecoboost) from the f-150 because the 2.7 smokes it in power, torque, and mpg. Yeah the 3.5 is cheaper but that might be its only saving grace.
