Happens...Mom keeps them for 2 years then kicks them out so she can breed again...guessing they will leave the den at 150 lbs or so. During that time Dad will try to kill the cubs because he is always ready to breed (not unlike some guys I know). Mom will do whatever she can to protect them. You might want to call the DNR and ask what you should do...most likely they'll tell you that you have to let nature take its course.

I've been lucky enough to see several bob cats while out deer hunting. It always leaves me with a smile on my face. Once, while on a hog hunt in a swampy area, I was sitting in a folding chair on a little patch of dry land I found. The crows started going nuts about 150 yds away, and I saw something coming towards me from that direction. As it got closer I could see it was a bob cat. It came straight towards me and popped out from behind a tree maybe 15 ft directly in front of me we made eye contact for about 5 or 10 seconds and then it just calmly walked to some undergrowth and then disappeared. Really a pretty animal and quite an exciting day! After that I bought a camera to take with me hunting... Never seen a cougar, yet...

I know the area well. Been here all my life. Spend a lot of time at Potato Creek.

The closest the bear got to us was Elbel golf course, NW of the SB airport. Then it headed west all the way to Michigan City, then back and forth across the IN/MI border all winter. They killed it at Grand Mere State Park between Bridgeman and St. Joe.

There's been reports of cougars for years. With the rise in ownership of game cams, its just a matter of time until someone gets a convincing shot if they are out there.

Don't be sad that people are moving into the cities and not living in the country. It will end up like the housing in Granger that is slowly spreading west of the 31 bypass towards New Carlisle. When I was a kid, there was no housing in Granger. Now there's thousands and thousands of houses. Makes me sad.

Yep, know your area too. I have lived in the area 42 years.

Glad to see South Bend seeming to turn things around. However I think the world would be a better place if we were still more rural.

I think South Bend is turning around because everyone is currently incarcerated! It'll start going downhill again in 2-5, with time off for good behavior!
