I would Love to see one! I am so jealous of my bolderb rother, who saw one while we were all fishing in the one of the streams south west of Calgary, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. He was sitting at a hole at the side of the creek, and a cougar wandered down to the creek on the opposite side, took a drink, and wandered off. Never saw my brother, nor smelled him. The thrill of a lifetime!

Cougars show up occasionally here in the Sacramento area and throughout Northern CA. They generally follow the American River from the Sierra foothills East of Sac. There's a nice hike/bike trail between Folsom and Sac along the river where the sightings generally occur.

You don't want to mess with cougars. When I lived in Orange County CA (1990-2004) cougars were spotted coming down into the county parks from the Santa Ana Mountains occasionally. In Jan 2004 a guy on a mountain bike was killed by a female cougar in the Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park, where I would sometimes do my roadwork. The cat was driven down to the lowland by the wildfire that destroyed most of the Cleveland National Forest a few weeks earlier. Scary stuff.

St Joe County (South Bend area). I reported it through the DNR's web site, but they have not contacted me yet.

That's where I live. Whereabouts in the county? We've got some land off of 23 between SB and North Liberty and the person that owns the neighboring property said he got a bobcat on the game camera. He's supposed to send me a picture of it sometime.

That bear over the winter was causing quite a stir. It was up at Elbel golf course, then moved west toward Michigan City, then back into Michigan where they captured it and euthanized it.

My assumption is that as the number of deer hunters decline and the resulting number of deer increase, we are going to have more cougars spreading out and reclaiming their role in the ecosystem.

It probably has nothing to do with the decline in hunters and everything to do with deer acclimating to urban human habitat, lush lawns to graze on and plenty of water in those "lakes" that are really retention ponds in the subdivisions.

Large mountain lion spotted in LaFayette neighborhood - : News

This is the latest news about 30 miles north of me in North Ga. They have spotted mountain lions in the area for some time now. They hear them more ofter than see them of course. Now they spotted one in a subdivision close to town and has the town more concerned now.

We have very large bobcats around here and of course you hear stories of someone hearing a mountain lion screaming at night but I've never heard one. With this going on up the road it makes me wonder though if folks are actually hearing a big kitty. I always just blame it on a screech owl they make a heck of a racket when its quiet outside.
