Yes, that weld. I just never saw one break that way.

I understand the OP is using a plate to give him more welding surface when welding to the FEL bucket. Just curious how would a person determine how much plate is enough??
I use the TLAR method.
That Looks About Right.![]()
The weld didn't fail. Bending a fillet weld like that is analogous to ripping a phone book in half-the secret is bending it so you are actually tearing it one page at a time which is similarly how you are breaking that weld, a micron at a time. If you want to see the tensile strength of the weld, try breaking it in the other direction. You wont have enough force to be break the weld. You will just fold the parent material over. You second photo in the above post #28 is amazing. It's close to a centerfold weld that every welder should tape to the mirror in the morning.
Shieldarc--I can't imagine any of your welds ever tearing under any circumstance ever. Never. Why did that weld fail?
Here's the broken pic, meant to add it in the first post.
All critique welcome.

When I did that 7018 fillet weld break test. I beat the top plate down on to the bottom plate. Then I had to beat it back the other direction to break the weld.
