2017 F150

Confidence comes with experience. As far as the truck not stopping the trailer, this is 100% wrong. The trailer has to stop itself. If Anyone is trusting any single wheel pickup to stop a trailer over a single axle, or 3k or more they need to rethink how they are doing things. In ALOT of ways. My 2012 f-150 handles 10k way better than my 2000 2500 ever thought of. The 2500 would pull harder but the f-150 has it everywhere else. Flame away. CJ

There has been a lot of thinking over the years. We have progressed from no trailer brakes to brakes on one axle to now having brakes on all axles.

Stopping is not the whole deal. The mass of the truck has much to do with towing a heavy trailer as well. We do have to control direction as well as to stop.

F150 is for suburbanites and housewives. Not a tough truck. Plus if you buy into the whole start-stop configuration get ready to replace a lot of starters and probably batteries. No more F150 for me.

Ha! Someone is full of goose ****... I love it, one guy has problems with one truck and they are all bad. Unbelievable...

May as well get used to the start/stop. With the increasing MPG requirements, it will be on all the vehicles in a few years. People are still bad mouthing the Ford aluminum bodies but GM will be all aluminum in a few years. We've had start/stop cars for years and it hasn't been a maintenance problem.

Really? Pure hogwash. Today's half tons run circles around those of yesteryear. Please, humor us with what you drive... Unimog or Terex?
Start stop technology is old, and the service life is no less mystical than "replacing $5,000 batteries before 100,000 miles in hybrids".

Oh Lord listen to some of you clowns. Most half tons are perfectly capable of handling a CUT and a couple of implements without issue...assuming you're smart about it and use a WD hitch and what not. My 2016 F150 with max tow and the 3.5EB has handled up to 9k loads just fine and I wouldn't hesitate to let it yank around the ~11k it's rated for (even with beer can body my truck still weighs 6k with me, full fuel, and ~300lbs of gear in the bed). Trailer has brakes on both 5.2k axles so braking isn't an issue. Having said all of that I would make a habit of towing long distances with that much weight...that's where a 3/4 ton and up with heavier duty everything would be a better choice for long term reliability. And for what it's worth before I bought my own trailer I borrowed a buddy's one time and with ~7k behind me the trailer brakes either failed or just sucked (only one axle had brakes) and between my truck's brakes and downshifting it stopped adequately...not something I'd want to make a habit of but it stopped the load and no way would I get out on the highway under such conditions.

Load the trailer properly, secure the load properly, hitch it to the truck properly, and drive like a momma with a newborn in the backseat and you'll be fine.

NO fair using common sense in posts. We are supposed to be defensive and emotional.

I nearly pulled the trigger on an F150 3.5 for towing my rig, but since it was the same price as the diesel Titan, I left the choice up to my wife. She liked the Nissan better, even though it was the first year for that model. We'll see how that goes.

You never stop a heavy trailer with the power unit brakes. Big rigs have what was called a 60/40 valve to put 60% of the braking to the trailer to keep you stopping in a straight line. I found that with my 2011 ecoboost I have to set the brakes at 9 when my 10,000# trailer is loaded to 9,000# to keep the trailer from using the truck brakes on a long downhill. If they could just come up with some type of engine or exhaust brake to help on long down grades it would be worth the up charge to me.

My 2016 f150 has one.

These guys are building in our neighborhood.

In 2011 people didn't believe a 1/2 ton could haul ten or eleven thousand pounds. Thus the video.

From you you tube page I see you make these videos often. Looks like last week it was installing a toilet. Before that plowing snow. I had no idea we had a you tube celebrity here on TBN. I guess it makes sense since you have a catchy screenname and apparently use your real picture as an avi.

As far as the comments about suburbanites and housewives I assume he is referring to the number of people in Texas who have trucks as a status symbol or to feel manly but do not use them in the traditional sense very often.

They are lucky to be building anywhere using a f-150 as a work truck. ;)

Here is my not-work truck not-at-work.

Our local police use F150s, however.

And of course, my truck leads a happy, useless, suburban lifestyle fit only for women.

More women's work, not meant for real trucks.

I photoshopped out the Chevy or Dodge pulling this trailer and edited in my F150 just to feel more masculine.

Because mostly my truck hauls around dogs.

I especially like the way you even photo shopped some dirt on the side of you truck to make it look as if it has actually been off the pavement! You have excellent photo editing skills :D

I could tell by the very first pic that it is a mall cruiser because the bed was covered;)

The animal control officers for the county here use F-150's(with the bed covered).

Then it pulls loads like this and the one in the background.

I also moved a 20' enclosed car trailer today. It made me feel special because the guy pulls it with a 1 ton chevy with a dmax.

F150s are the preferred suburban animal control vehicle!
