Attachment points for transport chain on Kioti tractor

Hi Guys,

I had another thread about what kind of trailer to get for my Kioti CK2610. I got the trailer- a Big Tex 18' 14,000 axles. So I just ordered 5 of the Red Devil 3/8-1/2" 9,200 pound ratcheting load binders and now I'm trying to figure out what lengths of 3/8th" grade 70 chain to get.

In order to figure out the ideal length for my chain I need to know where I'm going to hook the chains onto the tractor. My attachment points on the trailer will be at the stake pockets. I'll be using 5 chains- one in each corner and on for the FEL bucket.

Looking at the tractor there does not seem to be any dedicated hook up points (or maybe i'm missing something?). I checked the owners manual and didn't see any mention of it either.

So how do you guys tie your Kioti's down to your trailer?

Hmm, I haven't trailered mine, yet. I believe you are going for overkill. Not a bad thing.

Small tractors aren't that big and heavy... I'm planning on 5/16 chain and binders as 3/8 chain is heavy. Also, the FEL can be strapped down, attachments do not need chains and binders. Again, 3/8 is better, but smaller chains with straps for FEL are adequate and much lighter.

My opinions only, of course. YMMV

I've read here of people welding or bolting mounting points on to the tractor frame, I'll see if I can find some old posts.

Get some axle straps. Put one over each axle near each wheel and hook ur chains to them. I agree the chains u spec'd are overkill.

3/8" chain is heavy. Get 5/16"

I use 10' lengths of 5/16" on my 31 HP tractor. I hook on the rear axle by wrapping it around and the front corners on the frame to my FEL where it mounts to the front of the tractor.

I use these and run them through the wheels: SmartStraps 2 in. x 27 ft. Yellow Ratchet with Double J-Hook, 3333 lb. - For Life Out Here . I also strap the bucket and box blade down with one each. I only haul about 40 miles each way maximum, and recheck tightness after the first couple of stops and turns. I haul my DS3510 w/FEL and Rhino BX66 on a Big Tex 70TV landscaping trailer rated for 7000lbs, with my Tundra being the tow vehicle. The trailer has 2' sides, which negate the usefulness of the outside stake pockets as tiedowns. I mounted a pair of 1/2" D-rings to the frame with G8 hardware to tie down to. 1/2 in. Forged Cargo D-Ring Anchor

I don't trailer my tractor often, as I don't do tractor work for others, but the setup has proven adequate for hauling it up and down some steep grades. It is a good match to my Tundra, and my budget would not have tolerated a bigger, heavier trailer and new tow vehicle. The trailer is used far more for carrying brush and tree trimmings than for hauling the tractor. My tractor is only a couple of hundred pounds heavier than yours.

On my Case I put a big shackle in the draw bar and attach to that, and I might put a web type car strap over the axle. I'm not sure if I should be attaching to the draw bar though. On the front there's kind of a frame extension/bumper I attach to.

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, I do tend to overkill things. Always want to make it a little stronger/more secure. I already bought the ratchet binders for 3/8th, so it looks like I'll be getting 3/8th chain. I kind of wanted to get stronger chain anyway in case I end up hauling a car/truck sometime on the trailer. I don't really have a need to haul anything on a regular basis, but once you have a trailer you never no what might come up.

I'm kind of surprised that more tractors don't have dedicated hook up points built onto them at the factory. For such heavy-duty, expensive equiptment I just figured that the manufacturers would have a designed a more formalized system for people to transport these things.

You don't need 3/8 chain for a car or truck either. They're not any heavier than a loaded tractor. Use the 3/8 binders, but hook them to the smaller chain. Save yourself some grief dragging that heavy stuff around.

Yep, most 3/8" binders will work with either 3/8" or 5/16" chain.

I'm glad I checked in with you guys first. I just cancelled the order for the 3/8th ratcheting binders. I'm going to get some that will function for 5/16th and 3/8th. Then I'll get some grade 70 5/16th chain.

You guys made a lot of good points that got me thinking about my "overkill" plan. I hadn't thought that much about the extra weight of the 3/8th- I just played with some now and realized how heavy that would be in a long chain.

The ratcheting binders I found are Columbus McKinnon # 48360- they are made in USA, 7100 pound WLL and run about $70 each- they will work for grade 70 5/16th and 3/8th. They are no more expensive than the ones that will only work with 5/16th and they only weigh a pound more- So I figure I'll get those- also gives me the option of 3/8th chain use in the future. From my research they seem to be very high quality and popular- they are also known as Red Devil brand.

The best deal I found on chains was Cooper/Apex/Cambell- there are some good prices online for these USA made chains. Cambell is a USA manufactuer, so I'm assuming they ought to be of good quality.
