ZD1511 72" REAR DISCHARGE INFO & BLADE OVERLAP

Went to a dealer today & drooled all over a ZD1511 72" Rear Discharge unit
Man I like it but just ain't sure on tier4 DPF BS.

Then get the 1211. Ours should be in at the end of the week supposedly.

The 1211 is the same mower but with 24.8 hp and no tier 4. You can get a 72" rear discharge. That's why we're getting it is to keep from having emissions on a lawn mower. Biggest difference is a real nice suspension seat vs the air ride on the 1511

I just couldn't make myself pull the trigger today on the ZD1511 "Tier4 LawnMower".

I always buy the bigger engine on EVERYTHING I buy, BUT the Tier4 is pushing me towards the ZD1211 24hp.

The ZD1211-72 frt & rear axle widths looks the same as the ZD1511-72 as far as I could tell ?

Both has 61.4" wheelbase.

I couldn't find much difference between the two besides air ride seat, more hp but chocked down by emission stuff. I don't think adjusting the governor to 3200 would hurt anything if your low on power but the one I ran wasn't lacking at all. They are awesome and will mow full out if the ground will allow it

I turned the blades to 3&9 o clock & visually looked at them from frt of deck, today in the showroom.

I'd estimate 3/4-7/8" blade overlap. Not near as much as I'd like to see :-(

When tips of blades get worn off from grit & pebbles at 18k rpm, you have VERY LITTLE blade overlap.

IDK why mower mfg's don't have 1.5+" blade overlap like Bush Hog RFM do.

They could move center shaft housing out more & use longer blades.

I'd "guess" the blades were 1/4" thick idk.

I did notice the rear discharge blades didn't have as big of air lift wings like the side discharge blades.

The rear discharge deck also has a narrowed discharge opening so the opening isn't 72" wide and the grass gets double cut on the Rear discharge the way it's designed ...

The ZD1#11 72" rear discharge deck is open all the way across the back with Three Separate Rubber Deflector flaps partially hanging down to keep exhausted clippings off engine & transmission.

I really like the way it's designed, as I've been mowing with rear discharge since 2001.
