Thanks, definitely a big learning curve on this.

Question, when I run my 7014 over the 6011 I'm having very slight undercut on the edges of the plate. I went up & down on my amperage, tried pushing & pulling the arc, slight weave, etc... I can't seem to completely get rid of it. For the most part you can't drag your fingernail and catch the gap, but it's there and bugs me. Any recommendations?

When you weave, hold just for a split second on the edges / toes of the 6011 weld. That should let the undercut fill in. If that doesn't work. Turn the AMPS down some.

Ran some 3/32 7018 tonight, wow is all I can say!!!

Question for you guys, I grinded and re welded my welds 2-3 times per side, 3/8" steel. I can notice a very very slight bow in the plate. Is the steel still good to use for a inner brace? Or has rewelding it to my satisfaction possibly weakened the steel?

Its draw it up. It will happen. Weld on the back side, and it is likely to draw it back in line. Keep in mind this stresses the metal.

As Mark said, you can weld on the back side. And let it cool, to draw it back. Or if you have a torch, you can heat the back side, and spray water on it. To draw it back straight.

Question guys, what is a good convenient height to have the top of your work bench table for welding? Compared to your body?

I can't remember the exact measurement but my welding table is about 36" high. I have an old counter high bar stool I use to sit on for the stuff close to the table. I'm 6' tall.

Good to know, thanks guys. I think I'm going to just strike this plate up as a learning curve and cut/weld a new one in. It was good practice being my first V Grove butt weld though.

Question, if I ran a pass of 6011, could I cap it with a pass of 3/32 7018? Or would I be better with 1/8" 7018? It's 3/8" steel, I'm butt welding the 3/8" flat stock together, then fillet welding it to the 1" steel 3pt arm. I already have 3/32 7018 is why I ask. Also have 1/8 7014 but I ran some welds with the 7018 and man does it lay down NICE. No issues with undercut using the 7018 either and I ran them as hot as turning the rod cherry red by half rod burned.

Sure, pipe is welded every day that way. Well, pipe welders use 6010 for the root pass, and for the hot pass. Then fill and cap with 7018.
Using 3/32-inch 7018 you will find you don't travel very far, is all.

Question....what does the Dedicated E6010 port do on the PowerArc 200ST versus most other machines that have no such port?
