New to welding

For a total novice, or someone with limited experience (like me), this is possibly the best educational video I have seen on the 創et.

Steve Bleile Stick Welding 1 - YouTube

Also, it is the only video about welding I have seen where one can actually see the weld puddle and not just a massive flare of light and some smoke.

He has other videos about TIG, MiG, Oxy , etc.

Question....what does the Dedicated E6010 port do on the PowerArc 200ST versus most other machines that have no such port?
Mark can give the technical answer. But I think it changes the voltage.

Guessing the port hooks to higher open circuit voltage leg which is needed to run the cellulose flux rods 6010 and 6011.

Basically yomax is right. It also runs through an extra/separate inductance coil and runs a different internal setup and arc force and hot start programming.

Thanks, Mark....so have the rods changed recently to a different flux or that some inverter welders need the different set-up to run even the old standard rods optimally? 90%+ of my stick welding has been 7018 (some 7014 & 7024) on DC MG or transformer, so I have no recent reference.

More recent welding has been MIG w/CO2, but looking at some of the new portable MIG/Stick combo units in the 160-180 A range for light fabrication and outside equip repairs with fluxwire.

And Welcome Kenlip...another Aussie on the forum....the more the merrier!

Finally finished prepping the 3pt arm and welding back in new braces. 1st pic 7014, 2nd 7018. I think my fillet welds are getting much better.

Well, he HAS been only welding a "few weeks" whilst being mentored by an unnamed member that admittedly has only a "few weeks" experience under his belt.

Nice progress. BMan

Thanks guys, learning in leaps and bounds when I start working on a project. It's like I notice or make mistakes more.

My grinder would disagree with y'all. Running two, so one can catch it's breath when I switch out. Lol

Picture I took earlier tacking up a brace i put much lower running across & welding it to the brace running along the arm & to the arm it self. This should in my mind eliminate the weak points that cracked how it was originally designed. Going to put some more in sometime this weekend if I can catch a break.
