Since there was very little for me to do on the house, I took advantage of good weather and did a small burn at the front of the property, to deal with some of the debris. I tightened that up just after lunch and buried the ashes. (raked thru everything by hand to make sure it was fully extenquished.) While I was burning, a guy showed up from the cable company to paint the line for instal. He finished up and within 2 hours, a 2 man crew showed up with a mini-ex to open up a trench by the road so they could tie in the cable to the existing line. They had barely finished when a 3 man crew showed up and started pulling out the cable to bury it. When I left, an hour after dark, that crew was still there, burying the cable and they were almost done. It is a half mile run so I was impressed.

I am not there this weekend, because I have to cover the weekend for my real job. The well is supposed to get started this coming week and the reinforcements for the foundation are supposed to go in as well. Things are starting to happen.

"This is one crazy winter for weather. So far it hasn't got that cold here, either. And we are in the Colorado mountains at 7000 feet. Yesterday was typical...low 40/50s, no snow in the air or on the ground. The weathergal says we are in for a cold spell - mid 30s, maybe cooler."

My sons both live out there. One at about 8k. They're getting a kick out of the fact that it's been colder here in Georgia than there. Sounds like y'all are going to have a dry summer.

Wx Forecast is for mid 40s to 60s the next few days. It's always been dry here in the summer, but the years are so different now that who knows?

Dry weather is not a problem for the trout streams. If the summer is hot, the glaciers melt back a little. In high snow years the glaciers get larger.
So I've been thinking about putting in a little pond next to the trout stream that flows by our place. There used to be a pond there, but it got destroyed a few years back.

And thinking on that pond that got me to remembering the springs on WoodChuck's project. Have you done anything with them lately? How are they doing? Plans?

The waste lines have been tied in to the septic system. The inspection has been performed and the septic field has been covered up again. I put up an erosion fence around the tanks so that no one will drive over them while we are building, and once the house is built, we will put up a couple of decorative fences to keep the area clear of vehicles.

If I was building our place again, I'd make and update a detailed map showing the exact measured location of every underground tank, pipe, & wire. It's surprising just how much you will forget in a few years.

Ditto ditto

Is that like dilly dilly?

I measured to locations, like septic, from multiple corners of the house.

Nice to see the progress. Are you north or south of 64?

So is it a traditional drainfield? I haven't seen a tank like that except on "alternative" systems when the soil doesn't perk well.

That really is something different. Poop technology sure is changing!!!

Good thing you are taking lots of pictures, eventually one day in the future, you will really appreciate having them. The memory can only hold so much information!!!

Did they transition from your schedule 40 PVC to thin wall PVC?

Yep, I also measured everything from at least two corners of the house. It's quick and very accurate. Drew the septic tank and field onto the map to scale, and the pipe to it as well. Plus underground utilities, propane line, well line....there are lots of pipes and lines.

Right now there's a lot of debate as to whether to put in an traditional aerobic type septic, a newer aerobic type, or some sort of compromise. Local building regulations have complicated the argument too. The key is the perk rate of the soil.
Traditional anaerobic septics are the least expensive, require more space for the field, and work slower - but they have stood the test of time, and they work with minimal maintenance.

That spring is located on an opposite corner of my property, adjacent to a neighbors land. It is in a few acres of mature oak trees that I kept specifically because of their ability to provide food for deer, (and a good place to bowhunt). I won't be boxing it in.
