I just sprayed my truck frame with fluid film. It did such a good job i am thinking about spraying my excavator undercarriage with the same. I figured it would help reduce wear and rust. I know it repels dirt. Any input on this idea?

You should also consider LPS-3....a GREAT product!

It seems to be twice the price. Is it that much better?

You can buy a gallon of LPS-3 on Zorro.com for $62.59, with free shipping.
You can buy a gallon of Fluid Film for $42.59 at Advance Auto parts.
I use both products. I have a 16 gal. drum of LPS-3
LPS-3 has a Mil.Spec for corrosion protection. I do not believe that Fluid Film has a Mil.Spec.
LPS-3 will last through several hundred hours of direct water abrasion, before needing to be reapplied.
In past years I have rustproofed the panel interiors of all my cars with LPS-3.
Fluid Film is prettier, because it is clear.
LPS-3 is brownish, but is much longer lasting.
LPS-3 has been used in commercial aircraft cargo holds for years, as corrosion protection.
LPS-3 is not widely known in the homeowner/consumer market, but in my opinion, it is a superior product.

Would it be suitable to mower decks to halt rust/prevent further rust or would grass, small stones, whatever hits the deck underside abrade it off to quickly/ And would it tend to hold clumps of grass to the deck underside?

Big fan of Fluid-Film.

Fluid Film is a penetrant/lubricant/rust inhibitor specifically recommended for your hydraulic cylinders and other moving parts. It has made the bolts, screws, knobs, levers, hitch pins, etc., on my tractor much easier to move. Especially on the 3PH it is the difference between "stiff and hard to move" and "easy peasy." Once it dries you hardly know it's there. Also non-toxic, which I didn't expect.

Never used the LPS-3.

I would not use LPS-3 for the underside of a mower, don't think I would use fluid film for that either. Both would likely impede grass discharge.
