Push ring PTO coupling

Hi Guys

All good now the PTO been on and off several times with ease. A squirt of dry lube did the trick. Into digging a few post hole now. Thanks for your help. Cheers John N

I have a PTO with a ring which slides towards the tractor when the PTO shaft is placed on the end of the PTO. How do I get it on the tractor spline to the grove and take it off again at the end of use. The push pin PTO I have is a breeze in comparison. Cheers John N

Count me in on the push pin side. I just bought a new Land Pride cutter and it has (had) one of the collars you have to pull back to release. It wasn't too hard to unhook because both hands were pulling in the same direction. When you are hooking back up it required one hand to pull back on the collar and the other one to push in the opposite direction. I probably could have done it easily 50 years ago but old age and arthritis made it very difficult now. I bought a new yoke with the push pin release, messed up the universal joint getting it out and had to replace it too. Why they ever changed the things to the collar type release I an't figure out. I would think it is more expensive to make but what do I know? My wife says not very much.

You change it to the push button type. That's what I had my dealer do. Those pull back ring things are just WRONG!

I have both and I've never had an issue with either of them. Both slide on and "click" in place easitly. I do keep both styles lubed good though.

The best thing I did with the push ring on my 660 rototiller was to take the push ring apart and replace the spring with a lighter one. That alone made it about 50% easier to install.

It flushes away dirt and grease and leaves a light clean film which is all that's needed. The worst thing you can do is over lube the shaft and coupling with heavy oils or grease, which collect dirt and clog the springs.

Same here wd or just a can of liquid wrench. I've seen guys use grease and it's a mess

Light oil applied from a spay can works fine for me. Years of doing so never created a problem with button or ring collar style couplings.
