Need / want a pickup truck

I regularly haul 15-16k with an F-350 dually, 6.2L gasoline engine. Until you get to close to 20k pounds or tow a lot, the diesel is just bad math.

I agree..

I drive a Diesel because that's what I always wanted. And the 08/09 Bankruptcy made it happen. Is driving a Porsch or Corvette any different? Who said, what you drive has to be practical? For mostly just driving a 200 pound guy around, it hasn't been a bad truck.

My 90s truck is diesel and gets about 12 mpg. A 454 of the time probably gets 7 mph and 5 loaded. People hate on the 6.5 turbo diesels a lot but mine has been a solid truck and will eat a stock 350. The diesel vs gas of 20 years ago was a lot better option. Now days I think a diesel in anything without 6 wheels is a waste. But I use the same argument for a backhoe. Pretty much everyone waste money so if someone wants a diesel truck and can afford it they should have one.

My biggest regret, is that by the time I got one, it wasn't a Diesel anymore. If you can't park it on a hill, rip every last wire out of it, and bump start it, it's not the Diesel I know and love.

Buying for fun is not the same as buying a tool. My comments were to buy a tool. Of course, if you’ve got the money and like it, buy it. If you’re like me and money is always a huge consideration, buying smart is the best way.

If you bought it in 2008 you’re over 10 years too late. My 92 will do that. I don’t know the exact change point but by 95 a GM won’t. But putting that behind us a Duramax is way better than a 6.5.

To me, the BEST is when you can spend money on a quality TOOL and it makes you happy. I have seen both types of businesses and it always discourages me, when the owner buys the cheapest tools, because there is simply no passion to what he is doing. Just a means to an end.

I rarely buy a tool I don’t genuinely like. As far as trucks go, I love my truck, but it’s still a tool-bought for a purpose. I wouldn’t have got one I didn’t like, unless that’s all that would do the job. My tractor is no different. I like it, but it’s a tool. Heck, I buy tools, just because I like them.

That is why I like trucks powered by STEAM. All you need is water, coal-wood-whatever, and a match.
