I have a Pats quick change system and it’s working nicely with most of my implements. I decided today to check my snowblower and realized the PTO shaft is too short.

Do any of you guys use PTO adapters for making up the missing 5”? If so which one do you recommend? My blower gearbox shaft uses a double clamp style adapter to retain the coupler on the shaft groove. Most PTO adapters I see have a spring pin you drive through the center of the shaft. My shaft is not drilled.

Any thoughts?

I use one for my brush mower. It has a slip collar with balls to lock it on the spline. The male end looks just like the spline on the tractor. Bought mine at Agri Supply.

Actually, the roll pin hole is offset from center so if your stub shaft has a milled in groove the roll pin engages that. I usr a clam on one myself. Not cheap but very secure.

Didn’t know that, thanks! Looked to be on center in the pics online.

I’m leaning towards clamp on, best I’ve found one is $60.

Actually, they are your best bet because they have no slop. Every collared one I've tried wiggles to a certain extent. If I remember correctly the last one I bought was from All States Ag and it was around 60 bucks as well.

In fact, I bought a collared one at TSC, hooked up my discbine, started cutting and the adapter came loose and the only thing that saved my PTO shaft was I was watching closely. If I hadn't been the shaft would have dug into the ground and bent. It went back for a refund. I think the issue (slop) stems from where they are made and it isn't here either. The TSC (Weasler branded one) had 'Made in India' on it. While I don't have an issue with stuff made in India, it was just plain sloppy on the output shaft. The clamp on ones have no play whatsoever. Any 'oops' with a pto shaft driven implement can be costly real fast and I myself, cannot take that chance with a 30 grand haybine or a round baler or a rake or anything.

Those adapters are just like pto extenders, the problem is, they increase the "side load" on the pto shaft bearings where it comes out of the case.

I will NOT use them for that reason!

What side load? The only side load on a PTO shaft is the static load the universals impart to the shaft itself and that ain't much. I don't follow your train of thought at all. Way more dynamic loading with a sloppy collared extender wobbling around back there.
