Are there any refrigerator companies that make a reliable fridge anymore ??

You don't reckon that gasket has hardened up in the last 50 years or so do you?

I think if he pryed it off and flexed it a bit it would become supple again..... either that or it would become a pile of dust. :confused2:

Our 1992 model Montgomery Ward branded (actually a Sharp) microwave still works and we use it every day. It doesn't have the power it used to have though. Never been the same after the mother in law meant to set the timer and instead set the microwave on for 30 minutes with nothing in the cavity. Wife came in to the room and it was super hot with lightning bolts running around in the cavity. Needless to say that took some of the "starch" out of it. The mother in law was suffering from dementia, so that was that. But for almost 30 years old, it has been a good one. It was about 1200 watts, but now more like maybe 600 to 700. I suspect emission is way down on the magnetron. We just increase the cooking/heating times. It is electronic control too, and never had a lick of trouble with it. The vacuum fluorescent display is not quite as bright as it used to be, but still plenty readable. the touch keypad is still flawless, the latch still solid etc.

Depends on the age. Kenmore was always a marketing name and they changed suppliers regularly. Back in the day when I did appliance repair they were made by Westinghouse when Westinghouse actually manufactured appliances in the US. I guess that shows my age.

A service tech once suggested removing it and soaking it in warm/hot water.

One of my first project for Grandma at age 9 was to install new gaskets on her two refrigerators... this was a long time age but one box is still alive and kicking

We got a Kenmore french door, dual freezer drawer model last year when my Bosch fridge died after 5 years of age. In that 5 years it was fixed twice. Our new kenmore is an LG with a different name tag. My wife found the LG on sale at Lowes for $ 1300. She really wanted it but I insisted that we still shop around. Got to Sears and they had the identical model on sale for $ 1000 plus free shipping. Again except for the name tag it is truly identical to the LG. So far so good. So not all Kenmores are Whirlpools.

No, not every one are made by whirlpool, but the majority I have worked on were made by whirlpool. This was before LG,and some others got involved.
Kenmore use to take bids on who build their products..

With the demise of sears, I wonder if there will be any more Kenmore.:confused3:

I bought it on-line so the receipt is only from my printer. Good advice, I have had receipts fade away.

I heard many years ago that heating the paper up with a hair dryer can bring back the image of a receipt that has faded away. I have a folder in which I put all the receipts in when building my house many years ago. Nothing but blank sheets of paper mostly now.

I think part of the reason that refrigerators (and other appliances) have less of a lifetime is because of all the bells and whistles the newer stuff has.
