Ordered Ammo for a gun I don't own

I think you meant .303 Savage. Your .303 Brit ammo would not have chambered...no gun blow up.

Duh! I just checked my order from 12/17/2017 and it turns out that I had indeed purchased the wrong ammo... now I don't feel so badly about missing out on the rifle.

I've always wanted a Colt, just to have it. The most recent American Rifleman had a review on the new Colt Python which got my attention so I started checking prices. After visiting the Colt website I went to Gunbroker just for kicks and giggles- and almost had a heart attack. I knew that sellers on the site were high, but their starting bids are 33% over list price before shipping and transfer fees.

I've not been checking prices lately, but if you just saw those prices it might have to do with the virus uproar. One of my friends does regular business with a particular gun shop, and they called HIM to see if he wants to sell any of his guns or ammo. There's so much demand right now (in Washington state) that the dealers can't keep up.
Colt's firearms are great, but they aren't special by function. I have a 1911 in 45 and a Mustang in .380 that looks like a miniature 1911. Both are fine guns, but so are Kimbers, Springfields, and most any quality arm,

Great time to sell guns not to buy, I just got some 38 special 2 cases and 2 boxes of 380 acp for a buddy ,Not to bad on the price a little more then before and 3 or 4 days on the free shipping.........

I ordered a box of .38 specials from Cabelas because they showed in stock; got a notice 3 days later that it was out. That's what I've been finding about ammo, what is in stock today is sold out tomorrow. I don't care, I'm just replenishing supplies as I shoot and have learned always to be a couple of boxes ahead. (Or 1000 rounds, if it's .22 shells.) They still honored their free shipping.
JMHO but if somebody is buying a gun for protection now because of recent events they are way behind the curve.
